Wayback Burgers targeting early December opening

The recent explosion of new restaurant openings in the city continues as Wayback Burgers is targeting an early December opening for their Brandon franchise. Wayback Burgers is a fast casual burger joint serving fresh, delicious, never frozen beef patties, hand-dipped milkshakes and other items like hot dogs, salads and a variety of tasty sides. Franchise owners (Rahul Nair, Chiragi Patel, Jagir Patel) tell bdnmb.ca that they are extremely excited to open their 43 seat, 1600 square foot licensed restaurant in the city. Rahul is a graduate of the ACC Hotel Restaurant Management Program. The owners plan to remain very active in the community. They recently spent several weeks training in Boston to prepare for the Brandon restaurant launch. The recruiting, hiring, and training process for staff (up to 25) will start next week. Wayback Burgers will be located at 1240-18th Street, next door to Supplement King. There is 40 parking spots at the rear of the building. The Brandon restaurant will be Wayback Burgers second Manitoba location.  A Winnipeg location opened on the 20th of May.

Fowler Hyundai purchases Birchwood Nissan

Fowler Hyundai has purchased Birchwood Nissan Brandon. When asked if he was surprised that the Chipman family would sell one of their operations Rob Fowler told bdnmb.ca "Yes, we've kept in close contact with the Chipman family over the years".  According to Fowler the deal to purchase had been in the works for 3-4 months. The dealership will continue to operate at its current location and their goal is to retain all the staff and add a few administrative jobs that are currently being done in Winnipeg. "We're proud to be locally owned and operated and are looking forward to providing the best possible customer experience at Fowler Nissan" said Rob. The Fowler family has been in the auto business since 1922.

Minnedosa Credit Union Members Approve Merger with Sunrise Credit Union

Minnedosa, Manitoba – Minnedosa Credit Union held a special meeting last night at the Minnedosa Community Conference Centre to vote on the proposed amalgamation with Sunrise Credit Union. 73 members were present at Tuesday’s meeting, with 100 % voting in favour of the merger, effective July 1, 2020. “The vote shows the democratic member control that credit unions have,” stated Barry McNabb, chair of the Minnedosa Credit Union Board of Directors, “Member-owners having the final say on important initiatives is one of the mainstays of the co-operative movement. We’re pleased with their decision.” The primary objective of the merger is to improve member service through an expanded geographic area, increase and improve product offerings, enhance career opportunities for employees, and drive greater operational efficiencies and cost savings through economies of scale. “We are happy for our members because this was the right decision,” stated Minnedosa Credit Union General Manager Brad Ross, “This partnership will allow us to serve our communities well in the future, will bring enhanced products and services to our members and create powerful new opportunities for our staff.” Tim Klassen, President and CEO of Sunrise Credit Union, was pleased with the results as well, saying “We’re honoured that Minnedosa members voted in favour of joining us.” Sunrise Credit Union members also need to approve the proposed merger. A special meeting for Sunrise members will be held tonight (November 6th) at Sunrise Credit Union, 2nd Floor, 2305 Victoria Avenue, Brandon, MB. Member registration begins at 5:00 p.m. with the meeting to begin at 5:15 p.m.

Fun Time Pottery to celebrate 10-years in business

Fun Time Pottery (535 34th Street) will soon celebrate 10-years of business in Brandon. The company first opened their doors on November 18, 2009. Owner Milly McKenna tells bdnmb.ca that she decided to open Fun Time Pottery after she had attended a similar business while on a family holiday and loved it. So, she thought she would bring the concept to Brandon for others to enjoy. They offer ceramics, a clay pottery wheel, clay hand-building, board art, canvas painting, paverpol classes and fused glass classes. Fun Time Pottery is the ideal place to host birthday parties, ladies nights, kids day camps, office parties, school field trips, bridal showers, baby showers and more. "I am always challenging my own creativity and having my own business allows me to share it with others. Over the 10 years we have many many customers who have become really good friends" said Milly about owning her own business. To help celebrate 10-years in operation, Fun Time Pottery will be having specials ($10 mug day, 10% off day) running the 10 days prior to their party on the 23rd of November. On the 23rd there will be cake, coffee, a spin the wheel for discounts, and door prizes. "We are so thankful to everyone who has helped and supported us through these 10 years. Being a small business is always hard work and challenging, to continue to change and adapt to the consumer climate and to be a constant in the community.  Always grateful for customers, family, staff and friendships" continued Milly.

Wendy’s Grand Re-Opening November 8-10

The iconic tag line “Where’s the Beef” is long gone however the new and improved Wendy’s at Park and 18th Street has gone through extensive changes over the last two months. Most of the renovations were performed by local contractors. The locally owned and operated Wendy's originally opened in the Wheat City in 1987. The restaurant went through a much smaller renovation in 2015. The customer ordering process has changed where you now place and pay for your order and when it is ready your name will be paged. As of late, Wendy’s has added the popular meal ordering system Skip the Dishes. A Grand Re-Opening has been scheduled for November 8-10.
