New local furniture company, building your dream table from repurposed hockey sticks

22-year old Brandon University student Justin Holder, a former goalie for both the Virden Oil Caps and Waywayseecappo Wolverines in the MJHL, has come up with an unique business.  The business is called Prairie Twigs where he takes old broken hockey sticks and makes incredible furniture for the hockey fan in all of us. “When I worked at Source for Sports I saw all these broken hockey sticks coming in so I came up with the idea of making a functional table.” said Holder. Upon request, Prairie Twigs can also make customized furniture or else build your dream table using your re-purposed hockey sticks. The long term plan for Prairie Twigs is to partner with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. “I hope to be able to work with all the MJHL teams soon make to make products with their broken sticks”. Studio 78 Lofts Opens in Downtown Brandon

Studio 78 Lofts is a space all about community, empowering creatives and encouraging business growth. Located at the Historic Bass Building in downtown Brandon, Studio 78 Lofts was created to reach out to the creatives and both new and established businesses.  This up and coming concept is the only of its kind in Westman and is home to 2,000 square feet of business boardrooms and creative lofts. Ukrainian Cuisine under new management, Spanish menu items now available

Ukrainian Cuisine is under new management as of January 1. As part of the management change, the restaurant plans to offer a more varied selection by adding some tasty Spanish dishes to the menu including a combination plate (tortilla soup, 3 Mexican beef tacos and a homemade Horchata) for only $11.99, plus taxes.  Roman Grechaniuk, the previous owner, has relocated to Nanaimo, BC to run a restaurant (Roman's Restaurant & Lounge) inside the Best Western Dorchester Hotel. Ukrainian Cuisine is located at 800 Rosser Avenue inside the Town Center and they can be reached at (204)727-1783.

Shawarma Queen a great lunch & supper time buffet

Shawarma Queen Kebab House, 908 Rosser Ave, offers up a daily lunch and supper buffet featuring classic Mediterranean meat dishes like chicken shawarma, beef donair, lamb kebabs, and ground beef kebabs.  Accompanying side dishes often featured include green beans, samosas, chicken spring rolls, donair pizza, steamed rice, baked potatoes, and naan or pita breads.  The selection varies daily and a fountain drink is included with each buffet.  The food at Shawarma Queen is prepared fresh in-house daily and never frozen. The lunch buffet (Monday-Saturday) is available from 12-2pm.  The supper buffet is available from Tuesday to Saturday nights, 5:30-8:30pm.  Kids buffet (5-12) is 50% off.

100 Men Who Give A Damn…Bigger and Better

Round 3 of 100 Men Who Give A Dam will return on March 21st, according to Riley Day one of the members of the board.  Day along with Shane Cashin, Jason Earl, Spencer Day, Chris Creighton, and Bart Curtis and hoping this time around they will give one lucky charity $10,000.00. The process is simple said Day. "We collect $100.00 from each guy in attendance (cash or cheque) and once the winner is chosen they get all the cash and the cheques."  "Selected charities will have a representative on-hand who will make a quick pitch as to why they believe they deserve the money.  The men in attendance then vote on the charity they believe would benefit most from the money  The winning charity then issues a tax-deductible donation receipt...we don't take a dollar for putting this together" added Day. The Brandon chapter hopes to do 2 or 3 of these events per year. Kidsport received $7,300.00 in the first 100 Men that Give a Damn.  Samaritan House was able to take $5,400.00 last year.
