#ConnectingWestman Tour a Hit it Dauphin

Westman Communications Group (WCG) visited the wonderful community of Dauphin, MB, last Thursday, July 21, 2022, with the #ConnectingWestman Tour. A charity barbecue was held at the Dauphin Co-op Food Store to benefit the local non-profit organization, Under One Roof. The Dauphin community came out and raised $1,421.60; WCG  matched this donation dollar-for-dollar and turned over a total of $2,843.20. Under One Roof will be using the funds to support their Monday Meal Program, Wednesday Snack and Activities, and other emergency assistance initiatives. “Thank you, Westman Communications Group, for giving back to Under One Roof and the Dauphin Co-op for (the use of their) space,” said Tammy Chiefs, Secretary-Treasurer of Under One Roof. “The funds will go towards the Monday Meal Program, Wednesday Snack Nights, emergency assistance and programming. Well done!” “A big shout-out to the Dauphin community for their generous support,” said Westman Communications Group Marketing Manager Courtney Baxter. “We are pleased to have donated more than $2,800 for a good cause and to have this opportunity to connect and give back to the community.” Next up for the #ConnectingWestman Tour is Neepawa on August 25, then Roblin on September 8 to wrap up this year’s Tour. Dough ‘Nauts, Brandon’s tasty little hidden gem

Dough 'Nauts is a Brandon based business that has been in operation since July of 2021. Two 23 year old entrepreneurs, Madisyn Varcoe and her boyfriend Tanner Klemick, started the business as donuts are their favorite dessert and they noticed a lack of options for home made donuts in town and saw an opportunity to offer another option. They currently work on a pre-order basis. Pre-orders open Thursdays at 7pm and close Saturdays 7pm.  You can visit their web site to place an order. They offer pickup or delivery on Sundays. Currently the company operates out of Chez Angela Sunday mornings to have the donuts ready for Sunday afternoons, and their pick up location is Charlow downtown located next to Chez Angela.  Dough 'Nauts usually does 3 flavours every week and they rotate. For a rundown of flavours for the week, you can follow their Facebook page here. Cotton candy, chocolate toasted coconut, strawberry lemonade, lime coconut, and a rootbeer float are just a few examples of the different weekly specials they have offered since their opening. The duo takes inspiration from classic donut flavours with their own personal twist on them, also from other dessert (cheesecake, pie, s'mores, etc.) They also reference a donut book they picked up when the couple first started out. They also often ask for customer suggestions on their Instagram stories. While Dough 'Nauts only operates on Sundays at the moment, they do hope to have their own space at some point so they can be open more days. There may not be a lot of people that know about them, but they appreciate everyone that does and that's ordered from the company this past year, as well as the friends they've made through the business this year. Tanner does all of the graphic design for the business and their little astronaut donuts name is Kevin!

Rourke never scared of a challenge

Brandon’s Tami - Rae Rourke is a local female entrepreneur that has never felt any project was too big or small. In 2019 she purchased Friends Fur Life Daycare & Grooming on 26th street. Within a few months she gutted the building and gave it a new look. The business increased and demand for a doggie day care and grooming increased. She approached the contractors at CW2 and with her financial partner Sunrise Credit Union on board she was able to come up with a new fresh concept. The plans are to be open in early 2023 but she wants all her customers to know while construction is on-going that the business will remain fully operational. This new 2000 square foot facility will house Friends Fur Life Daycare & Grooming on the first floor (1000sq feet inside daycare and 1000sq feet outside daycare) a boutique, a grooming facility and lots more. The 2nd floor will be "THE DUKE". The Duke will have two AIRBNB’s upstairs that will be pet friendly and also if you have dogs and you have to do business in Brandon and Westman you can leave the dogs downstairs in the doggie daycare. Congrats to Tami and all her staff their new venture.

Manitoba wireless carrier, Xplore Mobile shutting down end of August

From their news release issued yesterday. It is with sadness and regret that we are writing to let you know that Xplore Mobile will be shutting down service effective August 31, 2022. This was a difficult decision. We set out to provide Manitoba consumers with the option of obtaining mobile services in a simple, fair and transparent way. At Xplore Mobile, we are proud of being the first in Canada to offer innovative data rollover plans. Xplore Mobile was also the first to offer unlimited data plans on LTE at full speed to Canadians. At the CRTC, Xplore Mobile spearheaded the quest for seamless roaming to reduce dropped calls for customers. Why are we shutting down? While we faced challenges, including start up issues of our own making, vigorous competition, and the pandemic, we overcame those challenges. In the end, we could not overcome the cloud of uncertainty created by regulatory delays, such as those associated with the CRTC’s mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) process and the high roaming rates that significantly exceed retail prices. We tried to hold on but the regulatory delays were just too long. We sincerely appreciate your trust in Xplore Mobile and it was a privilege to serve you. Our team is here to help you manage a transition to a new mobile provider. If you need to speak with someone to help during this period or are looking for further details, you can contact us at 1-866-841-7004 or check out our FAQ’s here. Thank you and we wish all of you the very best. The Xplore Mobile Team
