Manitoba wireless carrier, Xplore Mobile shutting down end of August

From their news release issued yesterday. It is with sadness and regret that we are writing to let you know that Xplore Mobile will be shutting down service effective August 31, 2022. This was a difficult decision. We set out to provide Manitoba consumers with the option of obtaining mobile services in a simple, fair and transparent way. At Xplore Mobile, we are proud of being the first in Canada to offer innovative data rollover plans. Xplore Mobile was also the first to offer unlimited data plans on LTE at full speed to Canadians. At the CRTC, Xplore Mobile spearheaded the quest for seamless roaming to reduce dropped calls for customers. Why are we shutting down? While we faced challenges, including start up issues of our own making, vigorous competition, and the pandemic, we overcame those challenges. In the end, we could not overcome the cloud of uncertainty created by regulatory delays, such as those associated with the CRTC’s mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) process and the high roaming rates that significantly exceed retail prices. We tried to hold on but the regulatory delays were just too long. We sincerely appreciate your trust in Xplore Mobile and it was a privilege to serve you. Our team is here to help you manage a transition to a new mobile provider. If you need to speak with someone to help during this period or are looking for further details, you can contact us at 1-866-841-7004 or check out our FAQ’s here. Thank you and we wish all of you the very best. The Xplore Mobile Team

Amazing burgers served up inside a barn

The Farmers Daughter restaurant, located inside The Barn in Kelwood, is one of those places that people come from km's around to visit. And they do. In conversation with bdnmb.ca earlier today, restaurant owner Connie said that during the course of a week visitors from Dauphin, Brandon, Neepawa, and even Winnipeg stop by to chow down on one of the restaurants amazing burgers, sandwiches, or freshly made cinnamon buns. Her burgers use locally sourced beef, in-house sour dough baked buns, and a tangy house sauce. No additional condiments required on these hamburgers. The cozy 5-table restaurant first opened in October of 2019. It is situated in the back half of the Kelwood Barn. A small town grocery/convenience store occupies the front half of the building, while the parking lot is home to a gas pump and an ice cream food truck. The concept for the Kelwood Barn comes from a number of investors who were looking to fill the void left when the local gas station closed their doors. The Kelwood Barn is located at the entrance to Kelwood and highly visible from the No.5 highway. Saturday's (June 4-September 10) the parking lot plays host to a farmer's market and live music. The Farmers Daughter Restaurant: 10-7 Tuesday-Saturday, closed Mondays + Holidays The Mountain General: 8-7 Monday-Saturday and 10-7 Sunday
