In response to the November 12th Public Health Act Orders released by the Province of Manitoba, the following COVID-19 vaccine requirements will be in effect at Brandon’s Community Sportsplex as of Monday, December 6th, 2021. Vaccine Requirements For 12 – 17 Years of Age (New) Persons who are at least 12 years of age but have not reached 18 years of age must produce*: Proof that they have received at least one dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine for COVID-19, as shown on a government issued immunization record, Manitoba Immunization Card or QR Code, or Proof of a negative Rapid Antigen COVID-19 test within the previous 72 hours that is confirmed by a pharmacist. Persons must also provide government issued photo identification (Driver’s License, Passport, Manitoba Identification Card etc.), or school issued ID. Vaccine Requirements For 18+ Years of Age (Continued From Previous Orders) Persons must produce proof that they are fully immunized*. This includes the following: Manitoba Immunization Card or QR Code National Defense Canada Covid-19 Vaccine Record / Card Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) Travel Vaccination Record An official document issued by a Canadian province or territory containing information of a person’s COVID-19 vaccination history Provincial Immunization Record Samples (pdf) International travelers: Immunization documentation submitted to Canadian border service officials and government-issued photo identification that confirms their citizenship. Persons must also provide government issued photo identification (Driver’s License, Passport, Manitoba Identification Card etc.). * Exemptions From Restrictions Persons under the age of 12 years of age Persons who produce proof from the government that there is a medical reason for the person not to receive a vaccine for COVID-19. A digital QR Code or a Manitoba immunization card must be presented for verification. City of Brandon Parks & Recreation Services is pleased to inform the public that the Manitoba Hydro Power Smart Waterfall of Lights display will officially be turned on for the 2021-2022 winter season today at 5 p.m.  The sparkling display of holiday lighting is located immediately west of the City of Brandon’s Parks Services Complex on 2020 McGregor Avenue. As of this evening, the display will be turned on and remain lit from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. nightly through the winter season. No public vehicles are allowed in the direct area of the Power Smart Waterfall of Lights display. The public is encouraged to park in designated areas on McGregor Avenue or Hilton Avenue and walk through the area to view the lights. The City of Brandon asks all members of the public to enjoy the lighting displays at a safe distance and not to walk in areas where power cords are present.  Preparation of the public skating oval in the area of the Power Smart Waterfall of Lights has not been able to begin due to the unseasonably warm temperatures. Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On November 29, 2021, shortly after 12:00 pm, police responded to a report of a male pedestrian swinging a knife around.  Nobody was threatened or harmed by the male.  Police located and arrested the male in the area of 34th street and Elviss Cres.  He was found to be under the influence of illicit drugs and in possession of a kitchen knife.  The 35-year-old male was lodged at Brandon Police Service and will be released once sober to appear in court on February 3, 2022 on a charge of Possession of a Weapon.

The BRHC Foundation is hosting a pancake breakfast on Friday December 3, 2021 however with a twist. Due to Covid protocols the breakfast will be a drive through format with breakfast being served from 7:30 am to 10:00 am. Pick up is at Murray Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC at 1500 Richmond Avenue. The proceeds from the pancake breakfast will be used to purchase equipment from the Tree of Lights wish list. Tickets are $10 each and will get you a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, orange, bakery treat and coffee. If you purchase 4 or more tickets we will even deliver your meal right to your door. Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At 7:15 p.m. Saturday, a Brandon resident parked a motor vehicle and left it running while they stopped by a residence in the 100 block of Louise Avenue. The vehicle was then stolen while it was unattended and unoccupied. At 1:10 a.m. today, police stopped the stolen vehicle in the 200 block of Douglas Street, and four persons were taken into custody. The driver, a 27-year-old male from Brandon, was released from custody and will appear in court in January. He faces one charge of possession of property obtained by crime. A 21-year-old female and 16 year old youth, both from Brandon, were held in custody today and will appear before a Justice. Both are charged with possession of property obtained by crime and one count of failure to abide by a previous release order they had entered into before the court. A 20-year-old female from Brandon was held in custody and will appear before a Justice today. She is charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of failure to abide by a previous release order she had entered into before the court, and one count of possession of a weapon for having a machete in her possession when arrested.
