On June 20th at 8:34am police were called to the Daly Bridge where a male was walking carrying a machete and a bottle of alcohol. A 53 year old male was located and arrested. He has since been released with a court date of July 29th, 2024.

The Brandon Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating this person who is: “WANTED BY POLICE”: Sydney DANIELS-CAMERON FOR Sexual Assault & Fail to Attend Court.  On May 16, 2023, Sydney DANIELS-CAMERON sexually assaulted a female inside a Brandon residence. DANIELS-CAMERON also has an outstanding warrant for Mischief to property that occurred on May 13, 2023. DANIELS-CAMERON’s whereabouts are unknown at this time, please contact Brandon crime stoppers with any information. ******** The Brandon Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in solving a Break & Enter. On June 16, 2024, a male broke into a residence in the 400 block of 7th street. The male was scared off by the home owner but not before stealing a purse and all its contents. Robbery with a Weapon

On June 18th at 11:27am police were called to an establishment on Middleton Avenue reporting a robbery. A male had pulled a knife demanding all the money in the till. Upon receiving approximately $300 cash he fled on foot. Brandon Police K-9 unit tracked the male to a nearby establishment. Video footage confirmed the suspect going into the secondary location and emerged in different clothing. Police arrested a 24 year old male. He was found to be in breach of his release order stating he must live in Winnipeg, must notify the court of any changes, and must not be in possession of any weapons. He was held in custody with court on June 19th, 2024.

Traffic Stop Resulting in Arrests

On June 17th at 2:00am police conducted a traffic stop in the back lane of the 500 block of 12th Street. Upon police observing unstamped tobacco and open liquor a search was conducted. The search resulted in finding 2 cartons of unstamped tobacco, 17oz of cocaine, and 75 tablets of OxyContin. A 22 year old male, a 41 year old female, and a 59 year old male were arrested. They were held in custody. The 22 year old male will attend court today, June 18th 2024. The 41 year old female and 59 year old male were released with a court date of August 8th, 2024

Downtown Market Housing Incentive Program

The area with the highest zoning density in the City of Brandon is ready for a makeover after Brandon City Council approved the Downtown Market Housing Incentive Program. This initiative aligns with the Downtown Brandon Secondary Plan's vision to create a vibrant, high-density residential community that accommodates different income levels. The new incentive program aims to accelerate residential growth, using strategies such as tax credits, development charge off-sets, and capital grants to spur more residential development. The Downtown Market Housing Incentive Program incentives differ, depending on the area of the downtown the property is in: • Tax credit for up to 20 years • Development Charges may be offset up to 100 percent • Capital Grants (per dwelling unit) are offered depending on the number of bedrooms The program will help promote new residential development, attract investment, establish market momentum, and improve vibrancy in downtown Brandon. With the enactment of this By-Law, City Council, along with key partners, including the Downtown Wellness and Safety Task Force, Economic Development Brandon, and Brandon Downtown Development Corporation are looking forward to collaborating with the City of Brandon to help make downtown Brandon a dynamic neighbourhood. Mayor Jeff Fawcett said “City Council’s recent decision to create the Downtown Market Housing Incentive is transformative for our city. By approving the Downtown Market Housing Incentive Program, we are enhancing our city’s core together with our key partners that are committed to seeing downtown Brandon flourish.” Reflecting the Mayor’s views, Gerald Cathcart, Director of Economic Development Brandon, emphasized the economic implications: “This program is more than just a housing strategy; it’s a driver for economic growth. It will attract investment, create jobs, and most importantly, build a stronger community.” The Brandon Downtown Development Corporation (BDDC), which has been involved in reviewing financial incentives, welcomed the decision. “The BDDC’s recommendations have been listened to. We’re excited to see the city take concrete steps towards a new downtown market housing program,” stated Emmanuel Ahaneku, Executive Director with BDDC. Applications will be accepted in person at the A.R. McDiarmid Civic Complex, located at 638 Princess Avenue, or online via housingincentive.brandon.ca.
