Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On October 21, 2021, police responded to a report of an assault in a residence at approximately 4:00 am. The 27-year-old male punched the victim before damaging property in the residence including TVs. The victim did not require medical attention. Police located and arrested the male a short distance away from the residence following the assault. Further investigation revealed that he was in possession of two sawed of 22 caliber rifles, a 2 ft. machete, bear mace and smoke bombs. He was lodged at Brandon Police Service and will appear in court today on charges of Assault, Mischief to Property, and Possess Prohibited Firearm X2.

The Manitoba government is moving proposed amendments to regulations under the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Control Act to a 45-day public consultation period, Justice Minister Cameron Friesen announced today. “New regulations would shift obligation and responsibility from restaurants to third-party delivery companies, where it belongs,” said Friesen. “With the delivery industry growing, we want to make sure that liquor and cannabis products are delivered safely and responsibly.” Proposed amendments to existing regulations under the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Control Act would establish a new licence category that would authorize third-party companies to deliver regulated products, such as liquor and cannabis, to customers on behalf of other licensees. Until now, the liability was placed on the dining room, lounge or retailers, who use these third-party delivery companies and would be required to accept liability if that third-party delivery company does not comply with requirements. The proposed legislation would also enable the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Authority (LGCA) to develop a minor agent program that would enhance its capacity to enforce breaches related to selling or serving regulated products to minors and young people. Agents under the program would attempt to purchase regulated products and allow the LGCA to monitor licensees’ compliance with prohibitions on under-age sales. Through proposed legislation, LGCA would be provided the tools needed to protect minors and enforce breaches related to selling or serving regulated products to minors and young people. Brandon Transit is excited to announce that Transit On-Demand is coming to a bus stop near you! This one-year pilot project will improve the connectivity of our entire city and will provide a more convenient option for passengers. It will also reduce wait times, expand the Transit coverage across the city, and improve service during off peak hours. Transit On-Demand is public transit without a fixed route or schedule. Rides can be booked through the Blaise Transit App* or online at ride.blaisetransit.com. Passengers will need to plan their trip in advance, at least 30 minutes before their departure time. Trips can be booked up to seven days in advance.  Once booked, the bus will pick up and drop off at pre-set locations throughout the city. Starting November 1, 2021, Transit On-Demand will run the following times: Monday through Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to midnight On statutory holidays from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. In addition to the on-demand service, new virtual stops will be added on the Blaise app. Virtual stops will not have physical signs posted in those locations. Transit On-Demand will also be extended into areas that have not been serviced by transit such as West McDonald Avenue, the North hill, the south end, as well as the Brookwood and Waverly Park areas. This type of service allows for easier expansion into future development areas utilizing new virtual stops. Conventional Transit will continue to run fixed routes during the following times: Monday to Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Brandon Access Transit service will remain unchanged. Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On October 14, 2021, at approximately 8:21 am police responded to a report of a 23-year-old male who had been stabbed near the 200 block of 5th street.  The male was treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Investigation into the stabbing led members of BPS Major Crime Section to conduct a search warrant on a residence on Cornel Bay, where they located and arrested the 16-year-old male suspect.  He was lodged at Brandon Police Service and will appear in court on November 9, 2021 on a charge of Aggravated Assault.

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On October 13, 2021, members of general patrol were following up on a report of abandoned property when they came upon a suspicious male who was moving a large quantity of used power tools, believed to be stolen.  The male was arrested and the property seized. Further investigation into the stolen property led members of Brandon Police Service Operational Support and Crime Suppression Unit and Major Crimes Section to obtain warrants to search two residences during the afternoon of October 13, 2021.  One residence located in the 800 block of 16th street and the other in the 100 block of 8th street N. During the searches, police located a large number of items confirmed to be stolen property, including tools and power tools.  Police also located a number of items believed to be stolen, however further follow-up is required to determine ownership. Arrested were a 34-year-old male, a 44-year-old male, two 37-year-old males, a 39-year-old male, and a 46-year-old male.  They were later released to appear in court on December 12, 2021 on charges of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime for the Purpose of Trafficking. Also arrested was a 44-year-old female who was the subject of outstanding charges.  She was lodged at Brandon Police Service and will appear in court today on the outstanding charges as well as an additional charge of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime for the Purpose of Trafficking.
