The Keystone Centre grounds will be closed to the public June 25th until June 29th to accommodate drive-thru graduation ceremonies. “While every graduating student typically looks forward to celebrating their years of hard work with a commencement ceremony, this year things are a little different. But that doesn’t mean the celebration can’t be just as enjoyable,” says Connie Lawrence, Keystone Centre assistant general manager and VP of sales. “During this time of social distancing, we’ve come up with a creative way to make sure every grad can enjoy their special day.” The Keystone Centre will be hosting drive-thru graduation ceremonies at the brand new pavilion on the facility’s south-east grounds June 25th, and June 28th. At that time, the public is asked not to congregate on the property to ensure all COVID-19 regulations are followed.

Numerous Brandon Police units were spotted in the 000 block of 9th Street on Tuesday afternoon in Brandon. The entire block was taped off with police tape, and many yellow numbered evidence markers could be seen on the sidewalk and road. Members from the Forensic Identification Unit were on scene taking photographs, collecting pieces of evidence, and taking samples of blood found on the sidewalk on the east side of the street. A witness described seeing people fighting in the street before at least one person was allegedly stabbed, however this has not been confirmed by police. An object that appeared to be a knife could be seen beside evidence marker 11, located in the street. The witness also described seeing at least one person being taken away in an ambulance. The condition of that person is unknown.

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On June 21, 2021, police responded to a report of a theft of copper wire from a business in the 1500 block of 81st street E. Suspects entered the business property sometime over the weekend and cut copper wire from heavy equipment.  Also stolen were several batteries from the equipment.  The total value of stolen property is estimated to be over $15,000. Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On June 19, 2021, police responded to a report of an individual entering yards on Elviss Cres.  While searching for the suspect police located an abandoned lime green Trek mountain bike with blue lettering.  Police have not yet received a report of a stolen bicycle matching this description, and the serial number has not been listed as stolen.  We would like to return this bike to its owner with proof of ownership.  If you believe this bike is yours, please contact Brandon Police Service by calling 204-729-2345 and reference file number 2021872848.

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At 6:30 p.m. Saturday, police were called to a disturbance in the downtown area. Two people from Brandon met with a 37-year-old male suspect also from the city, who had posted a bike for sale on a social media site using a false name and account. That bike had been stolen from the two people’s yard earlier in the day. The suspect when contacted advised the couple that he had sold the bike, but had a bike carrier for sale and would meet them to sell the carrier. When the victims confronted the suspect about the stolen bike during the meet, he ran and was pursued by both of them. The suspect turned on the two people and produced an expandable baton, which he began swinging in their direction in an attempt to strike them. Police located the suspect nearby and took him into custody. The expandable baton was recovered and the suspect was released for court in Brandon in August. He faces a single charge of assault with a weapon.
