City of Brandon Engineering Services and Underground Utilities Section are advising residents that a water main replacement project on Victoria Avenue from 18th Street to 26th Street is set to commence on Wednesday, July 21st, 2021. The project is expected to be completed by next Friday, July 30th, 2021. All businesses and residents in the affected area will have water. However, some water service disruption is possible at times. If discoloured water is drawn, residents are encouraged to run their taps until the water becomes clear. If discoloured water continues to be drawn from the tap more than a few hours after flushing, please contact the City of Brandon Underground Utilities Section at 204-729-2285. Some houses or businesses may also receive a boil water advisory during this project. If this is the case, a written Maintenance Advisory Notice will be dropped off in the affected mailboxes. Please take note of the sample image below. Those who receive a boil water advisory should ensure all water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute before it is used for: Drinking and ice making Preparing beverages, such as infant formula  Preparing food Brushing teeth It is not necessary to boil tap water used for other household purposes, such as laundry or washing dishes. On Monday evening, Brandon Fire and Emergency Services along with Brandon Police Service responded to the intersection of 9th Street and Aberdeen Avenue for a car that had driven into a house. It is unclear how the vehicle ended up lodged halfway inside of the house, and it was unclear if anyone was injured. A police officer on scene said that engineers were going to look at the house's structural integrity before attempting to remove the vehicle, as removing the vehicle could cause the wall of the house to collapse if it is unstable.

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At 11:18 PM, officers responded to a report of a male who had been observed carrying a handgun in the area of Cornell Bay.  Officers attended to the area and located the male who was found to be in possession of a replica Glock BB handgun.  Search of the male incident to arrest revealed he was also in possession of a small quantity of Crystal Methamphetamine.  He was under the influence of a drug or alcohol.  The 26-year-old male was arrested and lodged to be released once sober on an Undertaking for court October 14th, 2021.  He was charged with Possession of a Weapon and Possession of Crystal Methamphetamine.

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At approx. 9:38 PM Friday, officers were called to the 800 block of 14th St for an incident where someone was pepper sprayed.  Upon arrival, it was learned than a male youth approached the victim, asked to borrow their phone, then sprayed the owner with bear mace and fled with the phone. The 16-year-old male was located on Westaway Bay a short time later and arrested for robbery with violence and possession of a dangerous weapon.   The male was held at the Brandon Police Service over night and will be released later today with a court date of September 7.

Prairie Mountain Health will send Focused Immunization Teams (FITs) to various provincial, federal and private campgrounds in Manitoba to offer first-dose or second-dose COVID-19 vaccines to those who are interested, Health and Seniors Care Minister Heather Stefanson announced today. “As summer picks up and more Manitobans are getting outside and enjoying our campgrounds, this provides an innovative and fun approach to helping get more people vaccinated,” said Stefanson. “Bringing immunization teams into campgrounds allows us to reach people where they already are, making immunization easy and accessible to those who still need a first or second dose.” Immunizers and navigators will be set up outside at campgrounds, by concession stands or near beaches, and offering first and second doses to individuals who are still needing to be immunized. All doses will be administered on a walk-in basis, over a two- to three-hour period with Pfizer for youth aged 12 to 17 and Moderna for adults aged 18 and older. The teams will also be available to answer any questions people may have about the vaccines. Those who are planning to be immunized at a campground are encouraged to bring a consent form, but forms will be available at the sites for those who do not have one. “Provincial parks have been a great partner in advertising and promoting this among campers,” said Stefanson. “We have already been promoting these events on the Manitoba Parks website and social media, and staff have been extremely valuable in helping us plan this initiative.” FITs will be at the following campgrounds on the following days: • July 16 – Child’s Lake Campground, Duck Mountain Provincial Park from noon to 2 p.m. and Asessippi Beach and Campground, Asessippi Provincial Park from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; and • July 17 – Kiche Manitou Campground, Spruce Woods Provincial Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. “This is a great opportunity to use our parks and campgrounds to help push us toward our immunization goal and really meet people where they already are, at our campgrounds enjoying the summer,” said Conservation and Climate Minister Sarah Guillemard. “I encourage people to take advantage of the last few days of our free Manitoba Parks entry this week, get outside to enjoy the sunshine and get vaccinated at the same time.” Additional campground vaccinations are planned for the week of July 25, such as at Clear Lake in Riding Mountain National Park. More campgrounds will be added to the list in the near future, Guillemard noted.
