Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At 7:50 pm, an officer observed a 1-ton pickup driving erratically on 18th St near Richmond Ave. The vehicle eventually crashed into a sign at 26th St and Willowdale Crs and the driver fled on foot. He apprehended a short distance away. The driver gave a false name initially and displayed signs of impairment by alcohol. His identity was confirmed and he was arrested for Impaired Driving. After breath test readings over twice the legal limit, the driver was lodged to be remanded on Thursday morning. The truck was reported stolen from a gas station on Lyndale Drive. The accused, an 18 year old from Brandon, has been charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Public Mischief, Impaired Driving, Drive over 80 mg% and Breach of a Recognizance.

Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon’s Emergency Response Control Group is implementing a number of proactive measures in advance of rising levels on the Assiniboine River that could cause flooding in low-lying areas. As of 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1st, the Assiniboine River in Brandon was measured at 1,173 feet above sea level, measured at First Street. Provincial projections have placed the Assiniboine River’s peak at between 1,174 feet to 1,177 feet above sea level, measured at First Street, and is anticipated to arrive anywhere between July 5th and July 8th. However, due to the recent heavy rains in the Westman area, there is concern about flash flooding in the Assiniboine River Valley, especially related to the Little Saskatchewan River. As a proactive measure, crews are moving to close the hole in the City of Brandon’s dike system at the intersection of 18th Street North and Grand Valley Road (Provincial Road #459). An important reminder to the public that the City of Brandon’s earthen dike system has an elevation of 1,184 feet above sea level, measured at First Street. Out of an abundance of caution, the City of Brandon is taking necessary measures to protect the city and its residents, and has issued evacuation preparation notices to several hundred homes in the area between 1st Street North and 26th Street North, from Stickney Avenue north to Galbraith Crescent in the event that significant water comes Brandon’s way. The notices are being delivered door-to-door to impacted residences tonight. All residences receiving this notice should be prepared to evacuate on short notice. Impacted residents are asked to plan to stay with a friend or relative if at all possible.  If staying with friends or relatives is not an option, more information can be obtained by calling the City of Brandon Enquiry Centre at 204-729-2186. On Wednesday evening emergency services responded to the 7/11 convenience store on Willowdale Crescent for a vehicle that struck a sign. A red Dodge Ram pickup left the roadway and smashed into a large 7/11 sign in front of the convenience store. The sign had received obvious damage, and was leaning to one side. The pickup also sustained significant damage, as the whole front end of the truck was demolished. According to a bystander who witnessed the crash, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene before the arrival of emergency vehicles. Fluids were leaking from the vehicle, which required Brandon Firefighter/Paramedics to deploy sand around the vehicle to contain the fluids.

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release Shortly before 6:00 am on Tuesday, the resident of an apartment in the 600 block of Victoria Ave reported she was awoken by a woman entering her unlocked apartment.  The woman stole a purse containing an iPhone, medication and a vehicle keys.  At 9:00 am the complainant called again to report her 2014 Kia Rio was stolen from her residence.   The stolen vehicle was recovered by the RCMP after it was involved in a single vehicle rollover accident near Kemnay.  A female suspect was located nearby and arrested by the RCMP.  The break and enter is under investigation.
