Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At 3:00 AM this morning an officer on patrol observed a 2015 Chev 1500 traveling in the 300 block of 15th St. The vehicle had no licence plate and had a towel covering a broken rear passenger window. Members were aware that the vehicle matched the description of a truck stolen in Carberry on December 7th 2019. The officer caught up to the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop at 24th St and Victoria Ave, however the driver refused to stop and fled westbound on Victoria Ave. The driver failed to stop, running a stop sign at Victoria and then a red light at 34th and Victoria Ave before leaving the City on Hwy 1A toward Kenmay. The suspect continued westbound at one point reaching a speed of 165 km/h. Given the pursuit did not meet any traffic whatsoever the pursuit was continued by members of the Brandon Police Service. The suspect left the highway and headed south on secondary roads and then westbound again toward Alexander MB. The pursuit culminated when the suspect drove over a set of railway tracks while attempting to evade police and all four tires were deflated. Officers arrested the 30-year-old male driver from Rapid City MB at the scene. Once identified he was found to be currently on Probation having been convicted of two previous incidents where he led Police on high-speed chases. He has been charged with Dangerous Driving, Possession of the Stolen Property (the truck), Flight from Police, Resist Arrest and Breach of Probation. He was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Centre and will appear for a bail hearing later this morning. The passenger of the stolen truck was a 34 year old female from Erickson MB. She was arrested for Possession of Stolen Property, and was lodged at the Correctional Centre. She will be released later this morning with a court date of March 2nd.

The City of Brandon Public Works Department wishes to inform residents that Streets & Roads crews have begun clearing Priority 1A Routes following the recent snowfall. Work on Priority 1A Routes will begin in the east end of Brandon this morning and make its way along identified P1A streets across the City in the next 24 hours, with crews moving to other established Priority 1 Routes after that. Snow-clearing in residential zones will be considered at a later date. However, all residents are encouraged to visit http://snowmap.brandon.ca/ for regular updates on City of Brandon snow clearing operations throughout the winter season. The site also includes printable PDF maps of each Residential Zone (including which Priority Routes run through each zone) for future reference. To facilitate the above noted clearing of Priority Routes, an overnight parking ban on all seasonal snow routes will be in place beginning at 12 a.m. Friday, January 10th  and ending at 8 a.m. Friday, January 10th along the following streets: •             Rosser Avenue from 34th Street to 13th Street East •             Princess Avenue from Whillier Drive to 13th Street East •             Ninth Street from Pacific Avenue to Princess Avenue •             Tenth Street from Princess Avenue to Pacific Avenue •             Louise Avenue from 13th Street to 18th Street As per the City of Brandon Traffic Bylaw, it is an offence for any person to park or allow to remain parked any vehicle or portion of a Snow Route where a parking restriction applies. Vehicles which remains parked along these noted routes between 12 a.m. and 8 a.m. may be subject to a ticket or a tow. Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On January 7, 2020 at approximately 3:00 pm, police received a report of a robbery, which occurred at a business in the 800 block of Rosser Ave. After entering the business, the suspect interacted with an employee and claimed to be interested in some items. The suspect took out a small folding knife and grabbed the tip jar containing cash while the employee was assisting them. The suspect ran out of the business. Nobody was harmed, and there were no verbal threats made to the employee. The suspect is described as female, indigenous in appearance, 6 ft., slim build, several face tattoos, wearing a black jacket, dark brown coveralls, a black hat, and carrying two white bags. Darryl: I am the first person to always say “ah it’s Brandon that’s good enough”. For long time morning host and Program Director Tyler Glen of Star FM and Q Country he has stepped up his game. When you hear ads on TV or radio you would never guess what a competitive business it is to be the person voicing those commercials. The buyer will listen to dozens of voices trying to find the right feel and sound that will serve their purpose of having a professional sounding ad. Quietly Tyler Glen lately has amassed some impressive international and national clients including Kroger Family of Stores, Ashley Furniture USA, Fox Television Online, Anheiser Bush (Budweiser), Sheraton Hotels & more. Tyler: While 80% of my commercials are for US clients, I currently have or in the past couple of years, have voiced commercial content for clients in Mexico, Costa Rica, Cuba, Brazil, the Bahamas, the UK, Spain, Morocco, Sweden, Finland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Belarus, Romania, Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, India, China, Thailand, Australia, and New Zealand.  I actually only have two or three clients in Canada I regularly do production for. Darryl: This past weekend Tyler was selected to voice a tribute video for 1991 Time’s “Man of the Year” Ted Turner.  Explain to people how did this honor came about and from reading your Facebook post it must be a career highlight.  Almost as great if the Vikings won the Super Bowl. Tyler: Full disclosure: it was for the man of the year 1991, the year I graduated from high school.  (Ted Turner).  I'm a CNN fan and Mr. Turner founded the network.  I was recently contracted by a production company in Georgia to do a voiceover that will air at a dinner in which he will be honored. So you'll have literally hundreds of Georgia’s brightest in the business community at this dinner where he will receive a special honor, and a video will play before he gets that award.  And that video will be voiced by yours truly…..very cool….. since he was Tim Magazine’s Man of the Year in 1991…… the year I graduated from Erickson Collegiate. Darryl: Tyler how do you land these jobs or even tryout? Tyler: I actually started my studio back in 2006 so it's been 14 years of work. I quietly started as a way to earn a little extra spending money for family vacations and it ended up growing. The last three years have been really big, thanks to new technology and good old fashioned word of mouth.  What's really cool is that even though tools like the web and social media are used to help get the word out, it really is up to the individual to do a good job, provide value, be kind in the transaction, and follow up with all the traditional polite courtesy of business. These rules still apply in a digital world, and when you do a good job and you thank people for their business, and you’re courteous and kind, word starts to travel, and that's what has happened in my case.  I've been very lucky. I always appreciate getting a call from another city on recommendation from another producer. What started out as a way to earn some extra money with a couple clients in North Dakota has grown to over 30 States, voicing with producers from Los Angeles to Minneapolis.  And in this case Atlanta.  Just because you're in a small town does not mean you can't be doing big things.  I had a program director once say that great radio isn't defined by the number of people that are around a transmitter.  So true.  I also believe that when it comes to a person's career.  You can be “world class” anywhere.  Just because you may be in a small town does not mean you can't be doing big things.  Thankfully, and quietly, under the radar…..many people in Brandon are. Darryl: I know a month I sent you a message and asked if you were doing a commercial on CNN and sure enough it was you.  How does it feel when people notice hey isn’t that Tyler Glen? Tyler: It's quite weird.  Especially when I'm watching CNN or KTLA for the content and one of my ads comes on.  Recently my daughter was in the kitchen and her head turned around, and she said “Dad is that you?” and I said “yes”…..it's a very weird feeling knowing millions of people are hearing me too.  Humbling.  It's also weird when I get random emails or DM’S from people across the States saying they heard me.  Last week one guy told me he was shopping at Kroger when he heard me to tell him to “buy peas”  (In store audio).  Very funny. Darryl: Congrats from us at BDNMB and Food Truck Warz. Tyler: Thanks guys.  I'm truly grateful for every opportunity I have, and I'm thankful for all the good luck I've had.  It's important to remember:   just because you're in a small town doesn't mean you can't do BIG things.

Brandon, MB – As Brandon City Council prepares to deliberate the proposed 2020 municipal budget, the community is invited to provide its feedback on the draft financial plan at a community forum on the evening of Wednesday, January 15th, 2020, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Main Foyer of Brandon City Hall, 410-9th Street. The evening forum will include a brief overview of the proposed budget led by City Administration, which will be followed by a question-and-answer session led by members of Brandon City Council. Mayor and Councillors will be asking for public feedback on the proposed budget and on where they would like Council to focus its future spending priorities. The evening forum will be streamed live via the City of Brandon YouTube channel for the benefit of residents unable to attend, who will also have the opportunity to submit questions for answer by City Council or Administration during the forum via the YouTube live stream. Questions for City Council or City Administration before or during the forum can also be submitted via email at budget@brandon.ca, or residents may also contact members of City Council directly at any time during the municipal budget process to share their thoughts on the proposed spending plan. Prior to Council’s deliberations, the proposed 2020 budget is representative of a 2.97% average municipal tax increase. Brandon City Council will deliberate the 2020 proposed budget on Friday, January 31st and Saturday, February 1st.
