Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On Friday afternoon, a 37-year-old Brandon male was apprehended outside a north end business for theft. The police investigation revealed that the male had attended to business on two prior occasions in late October and committed thefts on both occasions. He was identified through video surveillance. The male was further identified as having committed a different theft at a different location Thursday evening. The male was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center and will appear in court in the morning. At the time of his arrest, the suspect was in the company of a 34-year-ol Brandon female and a 39-year-old Brandon male in a vehicle. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately $850.00 worth of stolen merchandise from a separate location. The male and female were both charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and were released to appear in court in December.

The Pinkest Owl Golf Tournament recently donated $5,000 to the BRHC Foundation | Western Manitoba Cancer Centre. The funds were raised at their annual golf tournament held at the Glen Lea Golf Course on June 8, 2019. The donation will be used to purchase a treatment chair and waiting room furniture. "The Pinkest Owl is an Annual Ladies golf tournament to celebrate breast cancer survivors, those who are battling breast cancer, or any type of cancer." The 2020 Pinkest Owl golf tournament will be held on Saturday, June 13th at Glen Lea Golf Course.

Brandon, MB – Brandon Fire & Emergency Services would like to remind the public when you set your  clocks back one hour before going to bed on Saturday, November 2nd, REMEMBER to also install new batteries in your home’s smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detector. The end of daylight saving time officially occurs at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 3rd, when clocks should “fall back” one hour to 1 a.m. Before you head to bed for the night, it’s also a great time to make sure all smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in your home have fresh batteries and are working properly! To survive a fire, you need to be provided with an early warning and know what to do when the smoke alarms sound. Working smoke alarms are required on every level of the home and outside all sleeping areas. For added protection, it is recommended to also install smoke alarms inside all bedrooms. Carbon monoxide alarms are to be installed outside all sleeping areas if your home has a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace or attached garage. Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release Between the 29th and the 31st of October, 2019 the accused posted a message on social media that stated “I am the school shooter or tomorrow bros let’s go”.  The accused included a photo of himself with the post.  Police were able to identify and confirm the identity of the suspect.  The School Division was notified of the post and they initiated a Division wide lockdown.  The accused was located at a Brandon school still wearing the clothes from the social media post.  The accused was arrested and stated he did not have any weapons and had no intention of doing any harm.  Police searched the accused residence and confirmed there are no weapons. A 14 year old male was released on an Appearance Notice to attend court on December 3.

Here are some tips for all to enjoy a safe Halloween. Trick-or-Treaters: Wear bright costumes with reflective tape or glow sticks so drivers can see you. Wear face paint instead of a mask. The mask can obstruct your vision. If you are wearing a mask always, remove it when you cross the street. Weapons as part of costumes should be easily identifiable as imitation. Carry a flashlight. Go trick-or-treating with a trusted adult, or travel in groups if you are old enough to be out alone. Carry a cell phone if unaccompanied by an adult. Always walk on the sidewalks. Be very careful crossing the street! Do not run out from behind cars and do not go back and forth across the street; walk down one side of the street. When you reach the end, cross to the other side. Walk facing traffic on the side of the road if there are no sidewalks. Stay in well-lit areas. Watch for cars pulling out of driveways. Never go inside a stranger's house for treats. Wait for them outside. Do not go near pets you don't know. Pets you do know may not recognize you and may be scared by your costume; this may cause them to be unpredictable. Get a game plan in place so everyone knows the route to follow. Have a central place where everyone meets up if you are separated. Know the places along the route where it is safe to go for help. Do not eat treats until you get home. Parents and or Guardians should check and inspect all candy before allowing children to eat it. If a house is in darkness, the homeowners are not participating in handing out treats. Drivers: Slow down. Pay attention for children running across streets and know that some will be in dark costumes. Do not wear costumes that interfere with the safe operation of a motor vehicle. Do Not Drive while Impaired. Avoid distractions such as cell phone use, texting, taking pictures and social media posting. If possible, avoid driving in residential areas where there will be a high volume of trick-or-treaters. Homeowners: Ensure your house is well lit if you are participating in handing out treats. Keep walkways obstacle free. Report any suspicious activity you may see. Have a safe and Happy Halloween!
