The preferred design option to replace the 50-year-old Daly Overpass in Brandon will be unveiled at a public information session later this month, Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler announced today. “This is a critical part of Brandon’s infrastructure as it is one of two primary north-south routes in the city,” said Schuler. “We know this multi-million dollar project is long overdue, and we are pleased to work with our City of Brandon and federal partners to get the job done.” Schuler noted the preferred option for the $65-million design includes two, two-lane overpass structures constructed on a new alignment east of the existing overpass, one for northbound lanes and one for southbound traffic. A public open house will be held to unveil the preferred design option will be held on Oct. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Victoria Inn, 3550 Victoria Ave. in Brandon. Manitoba Infrastructure has conducted an engineering study to look for innovative design solutions and ensure the project achieves the best possible value for money, the minister said. The provincial and federal governments have announced an estimated $65 million for the project. It is cost shared through the New Building Canada Fund with $45.8 million in provincial tax dollars and $19.1 million in funding from the Government of Canada. Construction is scheduled to start in spring 2021. The existing overpass will remain in operation during construction, with a minimum of one lane in each direction open to traffic.
