Keystone Centre receives grant for arena upgrades

Brandon’s Progressive Conservative MLAs are welcoming an important investment in the Keystone Centre. A grant of $68,675 from the Building Sustainable Communities Program will be used to replace boards, purchase and install a dehumidifier, and to construct a new female change room for the Kinsmen and Enns Brothers Arenas. The provincial contribution represents approximately 50% of the total project cost. “Our government is proud to be making this significant investment,” said Cliff Cullen, MLA for Spruce Woods. “This will help ensure a bright future for one of the crown jewels of Westman.” “The Keystone Centre is such an important facility here in Brandon,” added Len Isleifson, MLA for Brandon East. “I am pleased to be part of a team that works together to deliver support for projects like this.” “The Building Sustainable Communities Program is designed to provide a high quality of life for Manitobans,” said Reg Helwer, MLA for Brandon West. “This grant will do exactly that while benefiting our community for many years to come.” To learn more about the Building Sustainable Communities Program, please visit: https://www.gov.mb.ca/grants/pdf/bsc-guidelines.pdf.

Woman arrested for alleged stabbing

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release Just minutes before midnight on October 15, 2019, police responded to a report of an individual who had been stabbed in the torso during a dispute at a residence in the 300 block of 15th street. The victim was taken to the hospital, treated for the injury and released. A 23-year-old female was arrested at the scene and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre. She will appear in court today on a charge of Assault with a Weapon. Alcohol is believed to have played a factor in the dispute.

Male allegedly points loaded crossbow at girlfriend, threatens her

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On Saturday at 8:40 a.m., police received a report of a disturbance at an apartment in the west end of Brandon. The subsequent investigation revealed that a 21-year-old male from Brandon had assaulted his girlfriend by choking her during an argument. At one point the male armed himself with a crossbow which was loaded with an arrow, pointed it at the female and threatened to kill her, and then fired the arrow into the apartment wall. The male was intoxicated, and lodged at the Brandon Correctional Centre for release once he was sober. The male is facing charges of assault, assault with a weapon, uttering threats to cause death, and possession of a dangerous weapon, and will appear in court in December. He is on conditions to have no contact with the victim and not possess weapons.

Brandon man facing charges after alleged sexual assault

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On Friday afternoon, a 28 year old male from Brandon was arrested for Sexual Assault, Sexual Interference and Supplying liquor to a Minor. The incident occurred few days prior and the victim was known to the offender. The male suspect was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center to appear before a Justice for a remand hearing on Saturday morning.
