Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release Three separate investigations into Theft Under $5000 from different retail businesses occurring on September 21, 22, and 23rd, has led to the arrest of a 25-year-old male. On September 25, 2019, he was located when police attended an unrelated matter. He was also found to be in breach of a condition not to attend one of the businesses he stole from. He will appear in court on November 18, 2019 on charges of theft under $5000 X 3, and Breach of Probation X 2.

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release Break and Enter to Residence/Stolen Vehicle On September 24, 2019 at approximately 6:40 am, police received a report of a Break and Enter to a Residence in the 100 block of 18th street, which occurred sometime overnight through an unlocked door. Once inside, the suspect took a set of car keys, as well as the homeowner’s vehicle. On September 25, 2019, after midnight, Winnipeg Police Service advised BPS they had recovered the stolen vehicle. Break and Enter to Business On September 24, 2019, employees of the Brandon Cemetery reported that sometime after 4:00pm on September 23, 2019, suspects gained entry to a locked compound by cutting the lock. Once inside the suspect then stole two John Deer Gators, a generator and a water tank. The gators appeared to have been driven from the compound, southbound. Break and Enter to Business On September 24, 2019, police received a report of a Break and Enter to a Business in the 800 block of Parker Blvd. It is believed to have occurred within the last several weeks. The suspect gained entry by forcing open a locked gate, and locked shed. While inside the compound, they broke a window to a building and stole a quad, a golf cart and numerous tools. Anyone with information regarding this Break and Enter and Theft is encouraged to contact Brandon Police Service. Break and Enter On September 24, 2019, police received a report of a Break and Enter to a camper in the 700 block of 10th street. It is believed to have occurred between September 1, 2019 and September 15, 2019. Stolen was a Klein tool set. Brandon Clinic South will be closed permanently effective this Friday (September 27, 2019). A brief statement was posted (below) on the Brandon Clinic Medical Corporation's Facebook page earlier today. The walk-in service only clinic opened April 1, 2019. The 8th annual Birdies for Brain Tumours Golf Tournament held on June 22, 2019 raised a total of $16,000, with $12,000 being donated to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada and $4,000 donated to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation | Western Manitoba Cancer Centre. Birdies For Brain Tumours is a charity golf tournament and dinner that was founded in July of 2012. The tournament relies of a vast number of sponsors, volunteers, participants, organizers, supporters, donors, friends, and family to make the tournament a huge success. A number of prizes were up for grabs this year including a 2013 EZGO TXT golf cart, a 1 week vacation rental at Gleneagles Getaway, and a $500 Royal Bus Lines gift certificate.  The 2020 tournament date will be announced shortly.⁣

In its more than thirty-year history, the Great Grey Owl restaurant has provided an essential hands-on learning opportunity for Assiniboine Community College students, while giving residents of Westman the taste of fine dining against the beautiful backdrop of a Manitoba heritage building. For the past decade, public demand for reservations to the restaurant has far exceeded capacity. The college has decided to change the reservation process to allow donors the opportunity to book a table. “We needed to find a way to match the incredible demand with limited supply,” said Assiniboine president Mark Frison. “It makes sense for us to give preference to those who support our students.” Existing donors will hear directly from the college about details surrounding reservations and are welcome to contact the college’s Advancement office with questions. New donors to Assiniboine prior to November 1 may be eligible to book a table to the 2020 Great Grey Owl, which runs mid-January to mid-February. The college’s decision to move away from an open reservation call was not taken lightly. Staff examined a wide range of potential changes and suggestions from the community over the years. “There are many individuals—including our own staff—who give generously to student financial aid and other worthy projects at the college,” said Frison. “The changes to the reservation process help us to recognize their contributions to support our students.” At this time, the college has no plans to change the public ticket availability for other Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts events including Harvest on the Hill, Holiday Buffet, and the International Wine and Food Festival.
