Dumpster Fire Threatens Business

Just before 5:00 on Friday afternoon, Brandon Fire & Emergency Services and Brandon Police Service responded to a dumpster fire in the 500 block of 8th St. The dumpster was in a back lane behind Dulux Paints, and was very close to the rear of the building. An open vent near the fire was cause for concern, however, no fire had extended to the building. BFES extinguished the fire quickly with the use of a brush truck. Rifle seized during search warrant

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release Members of Brandon Police Service executed two search warrants on Thursday for firearms. The first one was conducted in the 100 block of 18th street. Members of Brandon Police Service General Patrol, and Traffic Units had the area blocked off to traffic and pedestrians over the noon hour. Six individuals left the residence on their own accord prior to the executing the warrant. They were detained while members of BPS Tactical Response Unit worked in the area. One of the six individuals, a 24-year-old male was wanted on charges issued by the RCMP. He was arrested and will appear in court in Dauphin on August 6, 2019 for Breach of Probation. The other five individuals were released without charges. Three individuals remained inside the house; however, they exited peacefully and were detained by members of the Tactical Response Unit. Once their identities were confirmed, they too were found to be wanted on arrest warrants, or in breach of court ordered conditions, which were unrelated to the search. A 24-year-old female was arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre. She will appear in court today on charges of Theft Under, Breach of Probation, and Fail to Appear in Court. A 42-year-old female was arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre. She will appear in court today on charges of Breach of Recognizance. A 39-year-old male was arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre. He will appear in court today on charges of Possess Weapon Dangerous X 3, Possession of Prohibited Weapon X 2, Breach of Undertaking, and Fail to Appear in Court. The result of the first search was negative. The second search was conducted at approximately 4:00 pm in the 3500 block of Willowdale Cres. During this search police located a high powered sawed off rifle. An 18-year-old female was arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre. She will appear in court today on charges of Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited Firearm, Unsafe Storage, and Possess Firearm with Ammunition.

Heritage Co-op Community Spaces makes large donation to the East End Community Centre

Heritage Co-op Community Spaces has donated $75,000 to the East End Community Centre. The announcement was made today at a bbq held at the community centre. Earlier in the week, they had also received a $75,000 grant from the Province of Manitoba Building Sustainable Communities program. The money is going to be used towards a total hockey rink replacement and outdoor upgrades.

Fake Brandon police officer accused of sexually assaulting woman

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On June 10, 2019, police received a report of a sexual assault that occurred prior to 2:00 pm. A male, claiming to be an undercover police officer approached the victim and convinced her to look at an apartment that was available for rent. Once at the residence, the male demanded sex from her. He threatened that she would go to jail for ‘prostitution’ if she did not comply. Further investigation revealed the identity of the 33-year-old male. He was located and arrested on Wednesday afternoon. He will be appearing in court on August 6, 2019 on charges of Sexual Assault, and Personating a Police Officer. All plain clothes or undercover police officers have identification in the form of badges and ID cards that they will present to you. Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration is an offence under the Criminal Code of Canada.

Brandon police catch two alleged burglars in the act

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release Police received a report of a Break and Enter in progress to a west end apartment at approximately 3:00 am. When police arrived at the apartment, the two suspects were still inside. Police confirmed that the apartment was vacant, and nobody should be inside. Police arrested a 45-year-old male for Break and Enter, as well as Breach OIC Undertaking for communicating with the other male, while on orders not to communicate. Police lodged him at Brandon Correctional Centre. He will appear in court today. Police also arrested a 21-year-old male for Break and Enter who was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre due to his intoxication level. He will appear on court on August 8, 2019.
