Premier Brian Pallister announced in Brandon today that ten new, full-time paramedic positions in the Prairie Mountain Health region will be filled later this year. “Paramedics are highly skilled, front-line health-care providers who ensure people get the care they need, where they need it,” said Pallister.  “By investing in 10 full-time positions in the Prairie Mountain Health region, we can build up staffing levels, reduce the system’s reliance on on-call staff, and improve patient care and outcomes for people in the Westman and Parkland regions." The 2019 budget called for an additional 35 positions to be added and strategically spread out across the province. Staffing announcements for the remaining positions will be released at a different date.

The biggest question trending to date this summer in Brandon is whether or not the new Gambler First Nation Business Park will entertain some sort of casino or gaming centre. Have Brandon drivers finally learned how to merge lanes, or is it time for another digital sign on 18th Street heading northbound towards the Daly Overpass? 8. Will another restaurant fill the space most recently vacated by Astoria Pizza, or is the location cursed? 7. Speaking of pizza, has anyone tried Red Swan Pizza? How many fans can the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks attract on night 7 of an 8-game home-stand? 5.  Festival Park is open (Brandon Riverbank Discovery Centre). What concerts, if any, will be held at the amphitheatre? It seats up to 3,000 people. 4. Will bdnmb.ca be launching a classified section and business directory? 3. The meth crisis in Brandon, what can be done about it? 2. What will become of the development on the property located at 1108-18th Street (old Shell gas location) in regards to a potential tenant and future site development? Could it be a bank? What new questions/information will arise in the coming months allowing us to publish a second edition of “ Top 10 Questions Left to be Answered in Brandon this Summer."

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At approximately 6:00 pm, members conducted a vehicle stop in the 700 block of 15th street. The license plates on the vehicle at the time of the stop were reported as stolen, and the driver was found to have no driver’s license. Once the driver was arrested, police located 6.6 oz. of Meth in his possession. The 31-year-old male will appear in court on July 11, 2019.

Brandon, MB May 21, 2019 - Daly House Museum is pleased to present The U.S. National Library of Medicine’s traveling exhibition, “Pictures of Nursing: The Zwerdling Postcard Collection.” This six-banner exhibit highlights pieces of unique collection of nearly 2,600 postcards from around the world that depict nurses and the nursing professions. “This unique archive consists of postcards with images of nurses and the nursing profession from around the world, produced between 1893 and 2011 with many examples coming from the Golden Age of postcards –roughly 1907 to 1920,” says the U.S. National Library of Medicine website. “These images of nurses and nursing are informed by cultural values; ideas about women, men and work; and attitudes towards class, race, and national differences. By documenting the relationship of nursing to significant forces in 20th century life, such as war and disease, these postcards reveal how nursing was seen during those times.” Subject explored by the exhibit include the religious and cultural origins of nursing, the historical status of nursing as a career, the gender dynamics of the profession, and the artistic representation of nurses throughout the 20th Century. The Daly House Museum has also added a special edition to the exhibit that focuses on history of nursing and the nursing profession in Canada.  The edition focuses on the heritage of nursing within Canada and the experiences of local nurses at Brandon General Hospital and the Brandon Mental Health Centre.  The exhibit will be on display until June 22 in Daly House Museum’s rotating exhibition gallery. Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At 11:42 pm police responded to a report of an attempt Break and Enter to a camper in the 3300 block of Rosser Ave. When the home owner confronted two individuals in his yard, he was sprayed with bear spray. The two males fled the area. One male, described as wearing a dark coloured hoodie was believed to be on foot, while the other was riding a bicycle. The victim was transported by BFES to the hospital where he was treated. Police also received reports of suspicious activity conducted by 2 suspects in nearby neighborhoods both before and after this incident. Extensive patrols did not turn up any suspects. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Brandon Police Service.
