On Wednesday July 24, 2019 at approximately 11:00 am, police received a report of a suspected impaired driver in Hwy 1A, headed east into Brandon from Kemnay. Witnesses reported the vehicle traveling in the wrong lane into oncoming traffic. Further investigation revealed that the suspect vehicle was also stolen from the rural area of Boissevain, and police had reason to believe that the suspects involved may have firearms in their possession.
At approximately 11:08 am, members attended to the residence of one of the suspects, and there located the stolen vehicle, a 1986, blue dodge pickup. It was parked at the residence and unoccupied. Police then set up a perimeter on the residence in the 000 block of 14th street N. while a search warrant was obtained.
By 11:38 am, one of the suspects, a 34-year-old male, was in police custody. The second male suspect, a 22-year-old male, was not located until approximately 10:45 pm at a separate location, where he was taken into police custody.
Shortly before 8:00 pm, police had acquired a search warrant for the 14th street N. property. Located was a sawed of shotgun, and the suspected matching piece of barrel.
Further investigation led police to a rural area southwest of Brandon, where a broken down double barrel shot gun, and other property believed to be stolen was recovered. The investigation into this recovered property continues.
Both suspects were lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre. The 34-year-old male faces charges of Possess Property Obtained by Crime, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Possess Weapon while Prohibited, Fail to Comply with Weapons Prohibition Order X 2, Breach of Probation X 2, and Breach of Recognizance.
