Maryland Park School – Catchment Information Session

Maryland Park School, Brandon's newest Kindergarten to Grade 8 School is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in September 2020. The new 65,660 square foot school will be built at the corner of Maryland Avenue and Ninth Street, just a few quick steps away from Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School.  Welcoming 450 students (with ability to expand to a capacity of 675 students), the school will include: a child care centre for 20 infants and 54 pre-school children; 40 nursery school spaces; 14 regular classrooms and kindergarten rooms with dedicated art, band and science rooms; a Science, Technology, Electronics and Math (STEM) lab; a life-skills and resource teaching and guidance suites, and an English as an Additional Language Room; a library and gymnasium; a home-economics lab; and an industrial arts (manufacturing/construction) shop. Brandon police respond to pair of break-ins at local car dealerships

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At 3:30am Brandon Police Service received a call from employees at a south end car dealership of a break and enter to several buildings.  Police discovered a vehicle reported stolen out of Winnipeg on scene.  A vehicle from the business was used to break out through a gate, but it was abandoned on scene with extensive damage.  A 2019 red Dodge Ram Rebel is reported as stolen from the business.  At 7:30am property stolen from the business was also discovered downtown by a witness. At 7:30am a second car dealership from Brandon’s north end reported also being broken into overnight.  No vehicles are reported as stolen, but property was damaged. Police continue investigate these crimes which are believed to be linked. Anyone with information regarding these incidents is encouraged to contact Brandon Police Service

Officers save female on bridge

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At 2:25 pm Brandon Police Service received a report of a female who was walking along the outside of the railing on the south bound first street bridge.  Members immediately attended to her and shut down traffic in both directions.  As the female was feeling suicidal members from the Crisis Negotiator Unit were called out to assist.  Members from BFES were also there to stand by with both an ambulance and water rescue equipment.  A family member of the woman was also on scene speaking with her.  By 4:00 pm the woman started to fatigue and slip.  She required the assistance of officers to pull her over to safety.  She was immediately taken to BRHC by ambulance where she was met by family.

Brandon man (23) charged with Break, Enter and Commit Theft

Source:Brandon Police Service Media Release A 23 year old Brandon man has been charged with Break, Enter and Commit Theft.  On May 3rd, a garage in the 1300 block of 18th St North was entered by the suspect who then stole several items out a vehicle parked in the garage.  He was identified from surveillance video at a nearby business.  He was located by the investigating officer shortly before 2:00 am on Sunday morning, arrested and lodged to appear in court on Sunday morning.

Grass Fire Threatens Homes Along Rosser Ave

Brandon Fire and Emergency Services were able to contain and extinguish a grass fire beside the train tracks along Rosser Ave, in the west end of the city. Fire was moving close to homes on Deer Place, Elk Place, and Fox place along Rosser Ave. Firefighters were able to contain the fire on the south side of the railroad tracks, without impacting any homes or properties. BFES's water tanker was brought in to supply more water to the firefighter/paramedics.
