This weekend there is a new market in town, the Gold Leaf Events Spring Craft & Gift Market. This market will feature over 40 local and surrounding area artisans, crafters and home-based businesses all while raising money for Strays That Can’t Pay. For those who don’t know, Strays That Can’t Pay are a not-for-profit animal rescue group here in Westman. They are currently on an intake freeze while they pay down their vet bills. At the market, there will be a bake sale and raffle prizes with all proceeds going to the animal rescue group. Gold Leaf Events owner and event planner, Krista Powell, who brings over 7 years of market planning experience, is excited, “It is going to be a fun day! There is a fabulous line up of talented vendors that will have bath and beauty products, jewelry, henna tattoos, women’s fashion, truffles, candy, home décor, pet items, kids items, pottery, vegan skincare, upcycled items, perennials, succulents, air plants and more! We are holding the event in the beautifully renovated Dome Building and we are raising money for a great cause!” The Market runs from 10am-4pm on Saturday, April 27th at the historical Dome Building. The Brandon Area Community Foundation (BACF), Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, and the City of Brandon’s Age Friendly Committee wish to extend an invite to all members of the community interested in learning more about the importance of Wills and estate planning to consider attending a pair of free public presentations being hosted in Brandon during Will Week 2019. Recent surveys by both CIBC Bank and the Ontario-based LawPRO insurance company have indicated that approximately half of Canadians do not have a valid Will in place that contains their last wishes in the event of their passing. With this in mind,  BACF and the City of Brandon’s Age Friendly Committee have scheduled the following seminar opportunities for interested members of the public during Will Week 2019 (April 22nd to April 27th) where they may learn more about Wills, Power of Attorney and Health Care Directives. Tuesday, April 23rd at 6:30 p.m. at the Cultural Resource Centre, 638 Princess Avenue, Door “B” Wednesday, April 24th at 2 p.m. at the Brandon Court House, 1104 Princess Avenue The FREE sessions, delivered by lawyers from Meighen Haddad and Patersons law offices as a public service, will include information on how to create a will, how to update an existing will, and how to make a charitable gift within a will. Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release Break & Enters: On Sunday morning, a resident from the 200 block 10th Street E. reported that between approximately 5:00 AM & 7:30 AM, the storage shed on their property had been entered through a small window, which had been forced open. The suspects stole two handheld power tools, and a couple of other items. Also on Sunday morning, a resident from the 1000 block Russell Street reported that their unlocked shed had been entered and two bicycles stolen from within.  The bikes are described a small adult GT Aggressor Sport mountain bike, blue and white in color with orange accents, and had a red coiled cable lock wrapped around the front frame; and, a men’s mountain bike, blue and white in color. Just before noon on Sunday, a resident from the 1600 block McTavish Avenue reported a theft of multiple tools from their detached garage, which had been left unsecured, between Friday at 7:30 PM and Saturday at 8:00 AM.  Items stolen included a Husqvarna chainsaw; a DeWalt 20V cordless tool kit; a black bin containing corded power tools – DeWalt circular saw, Milwaukee reciprocating saw, Makita grinder, and 2 “zip” saws; and 2 black pails.

Brandon Fire and Emergency Services and Brandon Police Service responded to the intersection of 10th St and Princess Ave for a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon. The Easter Sunday crash led to a traffic light being struck and heavily damaged. It appeared that nobody left the scene in ambulances. Accel Towing & Transport was tasked with cleaning up the wreck.
