City of Brandon Green Cart Program begins April 30th

Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon’s Sanitation Section is pleased to inform the public that its popular Green Cart Program will begin for another season on Tuesday, April 30th. Once underway, weekly pick-up will be maintained through to early November, weather-dependant. All collection days will coincide with a household’s regular refuse and recycling pick-up day. Program participants are reminded to have their Green Cart out for pick-up no later than 6 a.m. on their scheduled pick-up day and to only use compostable plastic bags or kraft paper bags as bin liners. Participants are also encouraged to rinse their Green Cart out regularly to avoid compost residues or odors. A refresher on the City of Brandon’s Green Cart Program and what organic materials are and are not accepted can be found here. A particular reminder that pet droppings should be double-bagged and placed into the appropriate refuse bins ONLY and NOT into Green Carts. Program registration remains open for eligible residents of single-family homes or multi-family complexes of six (6) units or less. As per the voluntary program, multi-family properties of up to six (6) units are eligible to receive one Green Cart to be shared amongst all units. Residents are encouraged to register online at http://www.brandon.ca/sanitation/collection/green-cart-program/green-cart-program-signup. If you have any questions regarding the Green Cart Program, please send an email to greencart@brandon.ca or call the City of Brandon’s Sanitation Section directly at 204-729-2281. Current members of the program who do not wish to retain a Green Bin can also contact the Sanitation Section to have their bins removed at no cost. As always, the public can also access any one of the City’s compost drop-off depots listed here or can take their Green Cart directly to the Eastview Landfill. Summer hours at the Eastview Landfill are now in effect and can be found at http://www.brandon.ca/sanitation/landfill/landfill-overview. Source: City of Brand Public Notice
