Brandon Police Service Media Release At 10:34 pm on Friday evening, members of the police service were conducting a Roadwatch check stop program.  A vehicle was observed driving well below the posted limit on Willowdale Crescent near Beech Boulevard.  The vehicle was stopped and the officer observed numerous empty beer cans on the floor of the vehicle.  The male driver displayed signs of impairment and was arrested.  He provided breath samples that exceeded the legal limit.  The accused, a 69 year old from Virden, was lodged and will be released to appear in court at a later date. At 3:15 am on Saturday morning, a vehicle was stopped in the 900 block of Rosser Ave after it was observed travelling the wrong way on the street.  The driver showed signs of impairment and he was arrested and transported to the police service.  He provided one breath sample that exceed the legal limit and then failed to provide a second sample as legally required.   The driver, a 38 year old man from Souris, has been charged with Impaired Driving and Refusing to Provide a Breath Sample. He was lodged at BCC and will be released to appear in court later in May.

Woman arrested after allegedly setting fires in backyard of home

Brandon Police Service Media Release At 11:40 am on Friday, the residents of a home on Darrach Bay reported a woman was causing a disturbance and setting fires in the yard.  Officers attended and observed a pile of clothing and a trampoline on fire in the backyard.  One of the officers used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire.  BFES also attended and confirmed the small fire was out.  The suspect, a 29 year old woman from Brandon, was arrested at the scene and lodged at Brandon Correctional Center due to her intoxication. She will be released for a court date in July charged with Arson.

Riverheights School closed due to sewer problems in the area

Due to sewer problems in the area, Riverheights School (32 E Fotheringham Dr.)  does not have access to water and washroom facilities at this time, and will be closing the school for today, Friday, May 25, 2018. Staff will be contacting parents directly to make arrangements for children to be picked up from their classroom.  Should you have any questions, please contact their office at 204-729-3210.

Residents can now register for a mosquito fogging buffer zone

Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon’s Community Services Department wishes to advise members of the public that they may apply IN PERSON OR IN WRITING to have a 90-metre buffer zone applied to their property during a nuisance mosquito fogging event in 2018. By registering for a buffer zone, citizens will have their property and an area of 90 metres on either side of their property in the front street, side street, and rear lane excluded from the Nuisance Mosquito Fogging Program. Residents are reminded that they must renew their buffer zone registration at the beginning of every season. A resident’s name, address, telephone number and proof of occupancy are all required for a buffer zone application to be accepted. A medical certificate is NOT required to request a nuisance mosquito buffer zone. However, should the Province of Manitoba issue the City of Brandon a health order to spray for West Nile virus, all buffer zones will not apply. The City of Brandon Nuisance Mosquito Buffer Zone application form is available for download by visiting http://www.brandon.ca/mosquito-abatement/buffer-zone-registration or can be picked up and returned to the City of Brandon Community Services Complex, 2020 McGregor Avenue. Male arrested for weapons offences, female arrested for possession of meth

Brandon Police Service Media Release At approximately 9:20 p.m., Police stopped a vehicle in the 900 Block of 26th Street after observing a male known to Officers driving the vehicle and picking up a female who was also known to officers. The male is Suspended from Driving and both subjects were taken into Police custody. A search of a backpack belonging to the male recovered a can of bear spray and a search of the female recovered a small amount of Methamphetamine. The male is the subject of a Court Order with conditions to not possess weapons and the female is bound by a Court Order with a condition to not possess any drugs. The 33-year-old Brandon man was arrested for Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Possession of a Weapon while Prohibited and Breach of Court Order. The 43-year-old female from Brandon was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine and Breach of Court Order. Both individuals were lodged at the Correctional Center and are scheduled to appear in Court on Thursday.
