Armed and barricaded incident leads to charges for a number of alleged weapon offences

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release Just prior to 7:00 PM Friday night a 41-year old Brandon man was involved in an armed and barricaded incident in the 0 hundred Block of 9th Street North. Police were called to the scene after being notified that the man had a gun and indicated that he would shoot people. Police responded utilizing the Tactical Response Unit and the man was arrested without incident just prior to 11:00 PM. An assault rifle was located within the residence. The male, was wanted for parole violations and will also be charged with several weapons offences including possession of a stolen rifle, possess a weapon dangerous, unauthorized possession of a firearm. He remains in custody at the Brandon Correctional Center.

Man charged with attempted murder after alleged shooting in Brandon

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release A 61-year-old Calgary, Alberta man has been formally charged with 2 counts of Attempted Murder along with Discharging a Firearm with Intent and Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration. He appeared at the Court House in Brandon this afternoon and has since been remanded into custody. As the investigation unfolds into the shooting that took place yesterday afternoon in the 200 Block of Highland Avenue, more details surrounding the incident have been learned. An alleged Robbery escalated with a shotgun being produced and shots being fired. As a result of the shooting, a 39-year-old Brandon man was transported to the Brandon Regional Health Centre to receive medical care and a 16-year-old female youth from Brandon originally admitted at the Brandon Regional Health Centre has since been transported and admitted to the Health Science Centre in Winnipeg with what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries. The firearm believed to be used in the commission of the offence has been recovered. The Police investigation continues.

Brandon Police Seize $92000 worth of Marihuana

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On July 3rd at approximately 2:40 a.m., Brandon Police patrol members responded to a gun call at a motel in the 1800 Block of 1st street. No firearms were located however the investigation turned when Police discovered a large duffle bag in the trunk of the male suspects’ vehicle. The contents of the bag contained approximately 20.5 pounds of Marihuana, carrying a street value of approximately $92,000. As a result a 63-year-old man from Calgary was charged with Possession of Marihuana for the Purpose of Trafficking and is scheduled to appear in Court in August.

Traffic stop leads to charges, driver allegedly in possession of Marihuana

Source:  Brandon Police Service Media Release At 5:09 p.m. Police stopped a vehicle in the Zero Hundred Block of College Avenue and a strong smell of marihuana was detected. The male driver was arrested and a search revealed he had a ziplock bag with approximately 30 grams of Marihuana on his person. The 52-year-old resident of Brandon was charged for Possession of Marihuana Equal to 30 grams and released to appear in Court in September.

Several Brandon businesses fined for health code violations

In the latest health protection report several local businesses have been fined for health code violations.  Reasons for the fines include failing to ensure that a food contact surface is thoroughly washed and sanitized, fail to provide sanitary facilities, fail to maintain safe internal temperature of potentially hazardous food, and handling food under insanitary conditions.
