18-Year-Old Caught Driving Impaired Twice in Under Two Hours

At 12:42AM, police stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of 8th Street on suspicion of impaired driving.  An 18 y/o man provided a breath sample in an approved screening device resulting in a fail.  Police seized his vehicle, and he was released at the scene with an immediate roadside prohibition. At 1:59AM, police stopped a vehicle in the parking lot of a south end restaurant.  The operator was identified as the same 18 y/o man that was stopped for impaired driving and released 20 minutes prior.  This time, he was arrested and transported to BPS where he provided two breath samples over the legal limit.  His second vehicle was seized, and he was charged with impaired operation, drive over 80mg% and drive while suspended.  He was held in custody and released in the morning with a court date.

Manitoba Government Investing $4.8 Million to Upgrade Neepawa Roads

The Manitoba government is investing $4.8 million to assist the Town of Neepawa to upgrade two sections of Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 16, the Trans-Canada Highway Yellowhead section, to improve access to the newly expanded health centre, Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Glen Simard and Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor announced today. “These improvements represent a critical investment in the future of Neepawa and the overall region,” said Simard. “Improving mobility will allow residents and businesses to more easily access the expanded regional health centre, as well as a community road network that connects to a new affordable daycare, the new school, the industrial park and Neepawa’s largest employer, HyLife Foods. These road upgrades are an important part of making sure that the infrastructure keeps up with the growth of the community, with proposed designs targeting and prioritizing safety.” The first project involves a contribution toward the extension of Hamilton Street from Broadway Avenue running east along the southern boundary of the new regional hospital through the SW 34-14-15W and including a north-south access to PTH 16. This new road system is being built by the Town of Neepawa, with the assistance of $2 million in provincial funding through the Manitoba Growth, Renewal and Opportunities Program (Manitoba GRO). “After years of being ignored, these projects reflect the provincial government’s commitment to ensuring that rural Manitobans get the vital infrastructure projects they deserve,” said Naylor. “As the economic growth in Neepawa continues, it’s important that local residents can feel safe and secure as they interact with a growing number of vehicles on the road. This infrastructure investment will ensure a high level of safety for all drivers.” The second project will complete the connectivity to PTH 16 where Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI) is proceeding with a traffic safety improvement project that will include a dedicated right-turn lane into the Neepawa Health Centre and a right-turn cut-off out of the hospital. The $2.8-million project has been tendered, with construction anticipated to be complete by fall 2025, noted Naylor. “The Town of Neepawa appreciates the province’s investment in our community and region, to support safer roads for all users and improve access to essential services,” said Mayor Brian Hedley, Town of Neepawa. “This funding will not only improve traffic flow and mitigate congestion, but it will greatly enhance and support economic development in rural Manitoba and enhance trade routes.” The Manitoba GRO program is an application-based program that was launched in October 2024 as an element of Build One Manitoba. The program aims at supporting infrastructure projects that help communities grow and thrive. For more information about the Manitoba GRO program, visit: https://gov.mb.ca/mr/mfpp/mgro.html. Police Rescue Two from Assiniboine River

Every day, officers of the Brandon Police Service show up with a deep sense of duty, heart, and courage—and on Friday night, June 27th, 2025, that commitment was on full display in a powerful and heroic way. At approximately 6:48 p.m., Brandon Police Service received a report of an intoxicated 27-year-old female who had expressed suicidal thoughts and had jumped from a moving vehicle near Dinsdale Park. By 6:54 p.m., the individual had made her way to the riverbank just west of the CP train monument and entered the Assiniboine River. The two officers who responded to the call did not hesitate to enter the river upon arrival, swimming out to reach the woman about one-third of the way across. They were able to safely bring her back to shore. An intoxicated male, later identified as the woman’s brother-in-law, had also entered the river in an attempt to assist but was unable to swim. He was also safely brought back to shore by the officers. The female was transported to Brandon Regional Health Centre for medical assessment. Following her release from hospital, she was held in police custody to ensure her safety and to receive a mental health assessment the following morning. The Brandon Police Service is proud of the swift, selfless, and courageous actions taken by our officers. Their willingness to risk their own safety speaks volumes about the heart of our members and their dedication to this community.
