The Brandon Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating this person who is: “WANTED BY POLICE”; Darian FLETT FOR Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking & Fail to Attend Court. On April 4th, 2024, police conducted a traffic stop where Darian FLETT was a passenger in a vehicle. Police located a large quantity of Methamphetamine inside the vehicle along with drug trafficking paraphernalia. FLETT was subsequently charged and released, however; has failed to attend court to answer to the charges. A warrant of arrest has been issued for Darian FLETT as her whereabouts are unknown at this time. CRIME OF THE WEEK for March 14, 2025 The Brandon Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in solving a Theft Under $5000.  On March 3rd, 2025, an employee from a store located in the 900 block of 18th street reported a male and female were walking out of the business with stolen property. When Brandon Police Cadets attempted to apprehend the suspects, the male threatened to bear spray them. Wednesday evening structure fire in Brandon

Photo by: Cooper Sass On March 12th at 8:47AM 911 advised of a call stating there was a second-floor balcony fire in the 4100 block of McTavish Avenue. Upon arrival smoke was coming from a second story apartment. The complex was evacuated, and Brandon Fire and Emergency Services was able to extinguish the fire. No-one was injured as a result of the fire. The fire is believed to have been non-suspicious.

2025-2026 School Year Budget Approved

On Monday, March 10, 2025, the Board of Trustees met to review and finalize the 2025-2026 School Year Budget. The final 2025-2026 School Year Budget and the 2025 Special Levy was approved as follows: The 2025-2026 Operating Budget results in a 7.82% increase in the Special Requirement, a 7.58% increase in the Special Levy, and a 0.41% decrease in the mill rate for 2025. For an average single-family home valued at $301,300, there is annual increase of $121.29 (6.78%) for school taxes prior to the Homeowners Affordability Tax Credit provided by the Province on a homeowner’s principal residence.

Possession of Dangerous Weapon, Carry Concealed Weapon

On March 9th at 11:29 am Police stopped a male on an e-bike that ran a stop sign in the 1200 block of 10th street. The officer observed what appeared to be a firearm sticking out of the male’s backpack. The 42-year-old male was arrested for possession of a concealed weapon. The officer located a Daniel Defense MK 18 rifle (BB gun), two cartridges of steel BB pellets, a folding knife, pepper spray and 8.75 grams of Methamephatime. The accused was on a court order not to possess weapons. He was held in custody at Brandon Police detention cells and will appear in court on March 10th, 2025. Break and Enter and Possession of Dangerous Weapon  On March 9th at 2:56 pm Police received a call reporting a female was attempting to break into a residence in the 500 block of 7th street The caller witnessed the female attempting to pry open the door with some type of tool. The female left the scene before police arrived. The caller directed officers to the 700 block of Rosser Avenue where the female was located. The 19-year-old female was arrested for Break and Enter. She was found to have a fixed blade knife in her possession. She was held in Bradon Police detention cells for court on March 10th, 20025. Breach of Release order- Consume liquor underage  On March 9th at 10:14 pm Police received a call of a female causing a disturbance at residence in the 700 block of 14th street. An intoxicated 14-year-old female was found to be the cause of the issues. She was arrested and found to be on a court order not to consume liquor. The accused was lodged at Brandon Police detention cells and will appear in court on March 10th, 2025.

The Brandon Wheat Kings have secured a spot in the WHL playoffs. Following this afternoons game in Calgary, they will have six remaining regular season games to close out the season. Assiniboine Cougars volleyball athlete, Kylee Peake, has been selected as an all-Canadian by the Canadian College Athletic Association. This is the first time that an Assiniboine athlete has been recognized as an All-Canadian. Full story here. The Brandon AAA U18 Wheat Kings swept their first round playoff matchup against the Eastman Selects, winning three strait in the best of 5 series. In the second round of the Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League playoffs, the Wheat Kings will now tackle the Southwest Cougars with the first game taking place Tuesday, March 11 at J&G Homes Arena. Brandon’s Cayden Glover was recently named a first-team all-star in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.  In his final season of junior hockey, Glover had an impressive 33 goals in 38-games before an injury sidelined him on January 31 in a game against the Virden Oil Capitals. Assiniboine College hockey team have officially clinched a spot at the 2025 ACHA Nationals in St. Louis which kicks off on Friday, March 21. In the Tiger Hills Hockey League, four teams remain in the hunt for the league title. In the East Division Final (Best of 5), Rivers leads Killarney 2 games to 0. Virden also sports a 2-0 series lead in their best of 5 series against Hartney.
