Eastview Landfill Temporarily Closed Due to Fire

2:23 PM: Update: The fire at the landfill has been fully extinguished, with all smoldering materials thoroughly covered. The landfill has been reopened. Thanks for your patience! The Eastview Landfill is currently closed due to a fire that occurred in an active landfill cell early this morning. Brandon Fire & Emergency Services, along with Operations staff, responded promptly to the incident. Work to put the fire out is still ongoing. Given the nature of the landfill, smoke may pose a health hazard; therefore, all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of staff and the public. It is advised to avoid the area if possible. Regular refuse and recycle collection will not be impacted. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.

Police called to a knife fight at a south end residence, intoxicated male skips out on $100.00 lunch bill

Assault Cause Bodily Harm/Breach of Undertaking   Early in the morning of March 16th, police were called to a knife fight at a south end residence.  When members arrived, two youths were seen running from the house.  They were apprehended quickly and detained for the investigation.  Members discovered a third youth had been attacked and slashed with a knife.  BFES transported the injured youth to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The other two boys were intoxicated and held in custody.  One faces charges of assault cause bodily harm and both face charges of breaching court orders.  For being intoxicated, they will receive tickets for consuming underage contrary to the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Control Act. Both are being held for court. All involved were known to each other. Mischief Under $5000.00 At 8:00PM on March 15th, police were called to an alarm at a downtown hotel.  On arrival, a 36y/o Brandon man was located and determined to be the subject of the complaint.  Staff stated that he broke a door and threatened a staff member with a broken pool cue. He was highly intoxicated, arrested and lodged to be released with a court date when sober Fraudulently obtain Food  At 1:00PM on March 15th, a south end restaurant requested police assistance regarding a male who left without paying his $100.00 lunch bill.  The man was identified and later located at a different restaurant.  As he was highly intoxicated, he was arrested and held for release when sober with a court date.

Brandon Woman Charged with Impaired Driving After Failing Breath Test

At 10:07PM on March 14th, police observed a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner.  Once stopped, the driver, a 24y/o woman from Brandon,  displayed signs of intoxication common with alcohol.  A demand was given to provide a sample of her breath on a roadside screening device.  The sample resulted in a fail and she was transported to Brandon Police Headquarters for further testing.  At BPS she provided two breath samples, both over the legal limit. She was charged and later released with a court date.  As a result of the charges, her driver’s license and vehicle were seized.

The Brandon Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating this person who is: “WANTED BY POLICE”; Darian FLETT FOR Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking & Fail to Attend Court. On April 4th, 2024, police conducted a traffic stop where Darian FLETT was a passenger in a vehicle. Police located a large quantity of Methamphetamine inside the vehicle along with drug trafficking paraphernalia. FLETT was subsequently charged and released, however; has failed to attend court to answer to the charges. A warrant of arrest has been issued for Darian FLETT as her whereabouts are unknown at this time. CRIME OF THE WEEK for March 14, 2025 The Brandon Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in solving a Theft Under $5000.  On March 3rd, 2025, an employee from a store located in the 900 block of 18th street reported a male and female were walking out of the business with stolen property. When Brandon Police Cadets attempted to apprehend the suspects, the male threatened to bear spray them. Wednesday evening structure fire in Brandon

Photo by: Cooper Sass On March 12th at 8:47AM 911 advised of a call stating there was a second-floor balcony fire in the 4100 block of McTavish Avenue. Upon arrival smoke was coming from a second story apartment. The complex was evacuated, and Brandon Fire and Emergency Services was able to extinguish the fire. No-one was injured as a result of the fire. The fire is believed to have been non-suspicious.
