Brandon Police Lay Charges in Wire Theft, Assault and Shoplifting Incidents

Possess Property Obtained by Crime On March 13, 2026, 3 adult males were arrested following an ongoing investigation into the theft of wire from a compound in the 1100 block of Rosser Ave E.  The wire is estimated to be worth between $8000-$10,000.  A 68-year-old male, 54-year-old male and a 53-year-old male were each released to appear in court on June 4, 2026, on charges of Possess Property Obtained by Crime. Assault with a Weapon On March 13, 2026, shortly after 7:00 pm, police responded to a report of an assault in a residence.  The adult male victim had been transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.  Following an investigation into the assault, police arrested a 23-year-old male.  He was lodged to appear in court on charges of Assault with a Weapon, Assault by Choking and Mischief to Property under $5000. Theft Under $5000 On March 11, 2026, police received a report of the theft of merchandise from a business in the 3400 block of Victoria.  The 27-year-old male suspect was located and arrested on March 13, 2026.  He was released to appear in court on a later date.

Police Seek Footage After Tire-Slashing Spree Hits South Brandon

On the morning of March 11th, many residents in the south end of Brandon woke to find the tires of their vehicles had been slashed. At this time, 72 incidents have been reported. Police are asking anyone who may have video footage (security cameras, dashcams, etc.) from the area to please upload it using the QR code provided. Officers are working diligently to identify those responsible, and the situation remains under investigation. If you have any information or relevant footage, please submit it to assist the investigation.

Breaches, Beverages, and a Brief Foot Pursuit

Breach of the Peace In the past 24 hours four intoxicated individuals were arrested for Breach of the Peace. Each individual will be released once sober. Arrest Warrants In the past 24 hours two individuals were arrested on the strength of their Warrants for Arrest. On March 10th at approximately 9:45 p.m., police were called to a residence in the 1300 block of 7th Street. Officers located a 35-year-old male who was wanted on a Failure to Comply with Release Order warrant and who was again breaching two of his conditions. When officers approached, the male fled on foot, resulting in a brief foot pursuit. He was subsequently arrested and held in BPS detention cells. He is scheduled to appear in court on the morning of March 11th, 2026. On March 10th at approximately 10:37 p.m., police were in the 000 block of 10th Street for an unrelated matter when a 20-year-old female threw a can of beer at a police cruiser. Officers identified the female and confirmed she was wanted on an Endorsed RCMP Warrant. She was arrested on the strength of the warrant and for Breach of the Peace. The female was held in BPS detention cells and will be released once sober.

2026-2027 School Year Budget Approved

On Monday, March 9, 2026, the Board of Trustees met to review and finalize the 2026-2027 School Year Budget. The final 2026-2027 School Year Budget and the 2026 Special Levy was approved as follows: Education Property Tax The following illustration shows the 2026 School Tax implications on an average single family residential property in Brandon with an assessed value of $301,300. 2026 School Tax Impact The tentative budget results in an annual increase of $138.49 (7.25%) on total school taxes based on an average single-family home valued at $301,300, prior to the Homeowners Affordability Tax Credit (HATC) provided by the Province on a homeowner’s principal residence. For 2026, the Province increased the HATC by $100 to $1,600 (2025 - $1,500). After factoring the increased tax credit on the homeowner’s principal residence valued at $301,300, the net school tax increase is $38.49. 2027 School Tax Impact As 56.5% of the 2026-2027 Special Requirement is carried over to the 2027 Tax year, this results in an increase of $84.39 (4.12%) in total school taxes for 2027 prior to factoring changes for assessment, enrolment, funding, salary increases and expenses.
