Two Charged Following Brandon Shooting: Police

At approximately 4:12PM a call was received regarding a gunshot in the 100 block of 5th Street on the afternoon of February 20th. Police responded and learned the suspects had fled the scene. A perimeter was established, and a K-9 track was conducted successfully. The situation remained under investigation, and we are now able to report that two suspects were charged. No injuries were sustained. 17-year-old male youth – Assault, Breach of Release Order x3, Party to the Offence of Careless Use of Firearm, Party to the Offence of Pointing a Firearm, Party to the Offence of Discharging a Firearm 19-year-old male – Careless Use of Firearm, Pointing a Firearm, Possess Weapon when Not Authorized, Discharge Firearm, Utter Threats, Unauthorized Possession Both suspects attended court on Friday, February 21st and have been remanded into custody. The Brandon Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating this person who is “WANTED BY POLICE”: Ashley ROSS for Fail to Comply with Undertaking On February 5th, 2025, Police conducted a curfew check on Ashley ROSS, as part of her release conditions stated she had to daily curfew. ROSS was not at a home at the time, therefore she was in breach of her undertaking. A warrant of arrest has been issued for Ashley ROSS as hers whereabouts are unknown at this time. CRIME OF THE WEEK for February 21st, 2025 The Brandon Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in solving a Theft Under $5000. On February 17th, 2025, two males attended a business located in the 900 block of 18th Street North. The males stole merchandise from the store and then attempted to return the stolen items for a refund. Assault Causing Bodily Harm On February 19th at approximately 2:56PM Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) requested Brandon Police Service (BPS) assistance in locating and arresting a 32-year-old female in relation to a MFNPS investigation that occurred on the Birdtail Sioux First Nation. Brandon Police located the female in the 1100 block of 19th Street where she was arrested on the strength of an endorsed Warrant of Arrest. She was then transported to BPS where she was interviewed and released by way of Undertaking by the MFNPS Police members. Assault / Assault with a Weapon / Failure to Comply Release Order /Mischief On February 19th at 8:38PM Police received a call of a disturbance in the 700 block of Braecrest Drive. Upon arrival it was found that a 37-year-old male had assaulted his 28-year-old girlfriend throughout the day including chasing her with a lit blowtorch. Numerous scratches on her body and bruising on her face were visible and documented. At the time of the arrest the male was in possession of a clothing item that linked him to another BPS file leading to a Mischief charge being laid. The female was taken to Brandon Regional Health Centre for care. The male was arrested, held in detention cells and will attend court in the morning on February 20th, 2025. Arrest Warrant / Failure to Comply Release Order X3 On February 19th at 10:16PM Police were called to a residence on Willowdale Crescent for a disturbance. Upon arrival it was determined that an intoxicated 21-year-old male was the cause of the issues. The male was also found to have an unendorsed Warrant for Arrest (Failure to Comply Release Order) and was currently bound by a Release Order with curfew, abstain and reside clauses of which he was found to be breaching resulting in new charges. He was arrested, held in detention cells and will attend court in the morning on February 20th, 2025. Source: BPS News Release

Intoxicated Man Detained After Refusing to Leave Business, Police Assist in Removing Unwanted Guest

Intoxicated Persons Detention Act (IPDA) / Disorderly Conduct On February 17th at approximately 11:53PM police were called to a business in the zero hundred block of 10th Street where a male was highly intoxicated and refusing to leave. Police attended and arrested a 40-year-old male. He was held in detention cells until sober. Also issued fine for Disorderly Conduct under the Liquor, Gaming, Cannabis Control Act.   Arrest Warrant On February 18th police were called to a residence in the 600 block of McDiarmid Drive. The homeowner had allowed a 43-year-old woman to stay for three weeks however the woman was behaving in a manner the owner disliked and would not leave, and police assistance was requested. Upon police arrival it was found that the female had an Outstanding Warrant of Arrest (Theft Under $5000). She was arrested and held at Brandon Police Service to be released in the morning. A court date is set for March 18th, 2025.

Police Respond to Multiple Disturbances, Assault, and Breaches on Valentine’s Day

Assault Peace Officer On February 14, 2025 shortly after 6:00 am, police responded to a report of a 37-year-old male who was in custody of security personnel at a business in the 800 block of Rosser Ave.  The male had been asked several times to leave the property but refused, he then proceeded to hit and push the employee.  When police arrived he continued to resist arrest.  He was later released to appear in court on April 14, 2025 on charges of Assault Peace Officer and Resist Arrest.   Breach of Undertaking On February 14, 2025 shortly after 9:00 pm, police responded to a report of an adult male, trying to gain access to his family’s home, but he was unwelcome due to his behavior and intoxication.  He was also to abide by release conditions not to consume alcohol.  The 20-year-old male was arrested and lodged at Brandon Police Service and will be released once sober to appear in court on a later date.   Breach of the Peace On February 14, 2025, shortly before 9:00 pm, police responded to a report of a disturbance at an apartment.  When officers responded they found that an intoxicated 50-year-old female was the issue. To prevent her behavior from escalating further, she was lodged at Brandon Police Service until sober. On February 14, 2025 at approximately 9:00 pm, police received a report of people fighting at a residence.  When officers responded they found that an intoxicated 38-year-old male was the issue.  To prevent his behavior from escalating further, he was lodged at Brandon Police Service until sober. On February 15, 2025, shortly before 3:00 am, police responded to a report of an intoxicated male causing a disturbance at a residence by throwing things around.  The 23-year-old male was arrested and lodged at Brandon Police Service until sober to prevent his behavior from escalating.
