880 CKLQ Expanding to FM

Courtesy:  CKLQ Press Release  Brandon MB, January 6, 2016 – AM Station 880 CKLQ has received approval from the Canadian Radio- television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to shift to FM while continuing to also broadcast in AM. “The FM band will allow listeners in and around Brandon to have better sound quality, while the AM band allows listeners from as far away as the Saskatchewan border and the U.S Border to continue listening to CKLQ, “ said Dave Baxter, President and CEO of Westman Communications Group. Westman owns and operates 880 CKLQ and 94.7 Star FM. “We’re extremely excited that the CRTC understood our desire to offer the enhanced sound qualities of FM to listeners in Brandon, and have approved to move CKLQ to the FM band,” said Cam Clark, General Manager of 880 CKLQ. Clark added, “We are allowed to the keep the AM as a repeater, so you’ll be able to continue to hear CKLQ on 880 in all of southwest Manitoba. We would also like to thank all the listeners and community leaders who supported us in the application process.” “The exact timing of the turning up of the FM signal is still being determined, but we will let you know as we get closer,” continued Clark.  About 880 CKLQ Radio stations 880 CKLQ and 94.7 STAR FM broadcast throughout Western Manitoba and are owned and operated by Westman Communications Group. Downtown Security Guard Assaulted

A security guard at a downtown Brandon business was assaulted, by a 21-year old female, on Friday night. According to reports, the woman was sleeping in the entrance way of the business when the security guard attempted to wake her up and ask her her to leave. The victim was assaulted at that point and did not sustain any injuries. The suspect was located and arrested later in the day. She was held pending her court appearance in the morning.

Drunk Female Stabs Brandon Cab Driver In the Face With a Pen

A local taxicab driver was stabbed in the face with a pen, by a 19-year old female, on Friday night in Brandon's west-end. Police say they received a complaint from a taxicab driver regarding an intoxicated fare, and while waiting on police to arrive, the fare grabbed a pen and stabbed the driver on the side of his face. According to police reports the driver then tried to leave his cab when the suspect climbed behind the wheel in an attempt to flee the scene. She drove a short distance before crashing into a snowbank, after seeing responding police. The victim was taken to BRHC by ambulance for treatment. The suspect was arrested on-scene for several offenses including Robbery with Violence and Impaired Driving, She refused to provide two breath samples and was also charged with Breach of Court Order as she was under a court order to abstain from consuming alcohol. Possession of Methamphetamine and Cocaine

A 29-year old Brandon, MB has been charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Cocaine following a bizarre incident in Brandon, MB on Tuesday morning. Police reports say that the male walked into Police Service looking to speak with Officers who raided his house. He was looking to return a small bag of methamphetamine that he believed Police left behind, in his residence, during the raid. It was determined that no warrants were executed on the residence in question and the man was arrested for possession of a methamphetamine. A further search of the man also netted a small amount of cocaine. He is scheduled to appear in court in March. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

NYE Stabbing in Brandon

Three men became engaged in a verbal argument on Saturday morning, which quickly escalated to a physical confrontation, leaving a lone victim with multiple stab wounds. Police say they were called to a residence in the 100 block of Princess Avenue East at around 10:31 Saturday morning, following a report of a stabbing. Police were able to determine that the victim, and the two other two males, had attended a party at the residence the night before. The victim was taken to BRHC in critical condition and underwent emergency surgery. A twenty year old male was charged with Aggravated Assault and Assault with a weapon.
