Police arrest male suspect in connection to stabbing incident in Brandon

New Commanding Officer for CFB Shilo

Canadian Forces Base Shilo received a new Commanding Officer this morning. Lieutenant-Colonel David Cronk officially took over command of the Base this morning in a brief ceremony. Lt.-Col Cronk arrives in Shilo from a posting with NATO Multinational Division-Northeast (Elblag, Poland).

Alleged beer thieves apprehended, one found hiding in dumpster

On the evening of 2023-06-22, police were patrolling the 1800 block of Brandon Avenue when staff from a beer vendor were observed to be in a physical altercation with two individuals.  Police arrested one of the suspects as the second individual fled on foot.  Nearby witnesses later directed police to a dumpster which the second suspect jumped into in an attempt to evade police.  Investigation revealed that two 17-year-old females attended to the establishment and stole beer, however assaulted a staff member in the process by knocking them to the ground to assist with the escape.  No injuries were sustained by the employee.  One of the accused has been released to a guardian with conditions to appear in court 2023-08-01 for the charge of Robbery with Violence.  A co-accused has been lodged at BPS to appear in court 2023-06-23 for a charge of Robbery with Violence.

The Brandon Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating this person who is: “WANTED BY POLICE”: Gary WILSON FOR Fail to Comply with Release Order. On June 21st, 2023, a warrant of arrest was issued for Gary WILSON as he failed to comply with his release order that stated he was to reside at a designated address. A warrant of arrest has been issued for Gary WILSON as his whereabouts are unknown at this time. ************************************************************************ The Brandon Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in solving a Mischief. On June 15th, 2023, a male was captured on surveillance parking and exiting his vehicle in the 400 block of Queens Avenue. The male proceeded to walk to a property fence and tore down a PRIDE flag, stomped on it and then proceeded to throw it in the garbage. RCMP name 16 victims in Manitoba highway crash

Earlier today, Manitoba RCMP identified publicly the names of the 16 individuals who lost their lives in a devastating bus crash one week ago. Some families have provided a small message about their loved one that will be read after their name. • Louis Bretecher, 81 - Proud and beloved Husband, Father, and Pepere. He will forever be missed and always remembered by all who knew and loved him. Our hearts lay also with those families who are grieving alongside ours. We request that our family’s privacy be respected by the media during this difficult time. • Margaret Furkalo, 82 - Forever in our hearts. • Vangie Gilchrist, 83 - of Gilbert Plains. • Ann Hill, 81 - Rest in peace Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Sister • Helen Kufley, 88 - We are heartbroken and numb by this tragedy and the loss of our vibrant mother, Baba and Great Baba. SVDN celebrates grand opening of Grand Valley Campground

Yesterday, as part of the National Indigenous Peoples Day taking place in the city, Sioux Valley Dakota Nation celebrated the Grand Opening of the Grand Valley Campground. The day was filled with different events and attractions including kids games, live music, wagon rides, vendors, and more. The Grand Valley Park RV and Tube Park is located directly off of the Trans Canada Highway approximately 8kms west of Brandon. Earlier this year, Sioux Valley Dakota Nation released a statement announcing they would be taken over management of the Grand Valley Park RV and Tube Park.
