Brandon’s Chastko Helps Everett Capture WHL Championship

Brandon product Nolan Chastko is celebrating a major milestone in his hockey career after helping the Everett Silvertips capture the 2026 WHL Championship. Known for his steady play and strong work ethic, he played an important role throughout Everett’s playoff run as the Silvertips battled through a competitive Western Hockey League postseason to claim the league title. For Chastko, the championship marks another significant step in a hockey journey that began in Westman. Prior to joining the WHL ranks, he suited up for the Brandon Wheat Kings U18 AAA program, where he developed into one of the region’s promising young prospects. He later continued his development with the Virden Oil Capitals in the MJHL. Coaches and teammates over the years have praised Chastko for his leadership, defensive reliability, and ability to contribute in key moments. Those qualities were on display throughout Everett’s championship season. He finished the post season with 9 points in 18 games. The WHL title is a proud achievement not only for Chastko, but also for the Brandon and Westman hockey community, which has watched his development from the minor hockey ranks to major junior success. With the championship now secured, Chastko and the Silvertips will turn their attention toward continuing their strong season on the national stage, while hockey fans back home in Brandon celebrate one of their own reaching the top of the WHL.

Source for Sports AAA Hockey Challenge week 3 wrap-up

The third and final weekend of the 2026 Source for Sports AAA Hockey Challengewrapped up Sunday. In total, 30 teams competed in 3 different divisions. The annual tournament returns in April 2027. 2015  Remley By scored a hat-trick and added an assist as the Parkland Stars erased a three-goal deficit and extended its winning streak to five games with a 9-6 conquest over the Regina Raiders at J and G Homes Arena on Sunday. Capping off the scoring for the Parkland Stars was Kason Nordquist and Mason McDowell with a pair of goals each and Luca Morrison and Karson Enge contributing with a goal each. Oliver Melsted and Madden Swinburnson each added two assists. Goaltender Lincoln Yackulic turned aside 37 shots for the Parkland Stars in the win. Sniping for the Regina Raiders was Max Birnie with four strikes and Birkley Lawson and Kane Richardson each adding single tallies. Emerson Ruud added two assists. Goaltender Bennett Lepage made 20 saves in the loss for the Regina Raiders. The setback halted the Regina Raiders' four-game winning streak. The Regina Raiders jumped out to a 3-0 lead when Birnie scored his fifth of the tournament with 2:00 left in the first period but Nordquist responded for the Parkland Stars with his ninth of the tournament to start the rally. 2014  Emery Brown scored two goals and added an assist as the South Sask Attack extended its winning streak to five games with a 6-2 defeat over the Southeast Unleashed / Pelda at J and G Homes Arena on Sunday. Rounding out the scoring for the South Sask Attack was Jace Konkel with two goals and Holden Smith and Sawyer Vargo chipping in with a goal each. Smith and Jackson Ulmer each added two assists. Goaltender Van Gazdewich turned aside 14 shots for the South Sask Attack in the win. The scoring contribution for the Southeast Unleashed / Pelda was Owen Kiernicki with two goals . Finn Zurawsky added two assists. Goaltender Sophie Bazin made 33 saves in the loss for the Southeast Unleashed / Pelda. The setback halted the Southeast Unleashed / Pelda's three-game winning streak. With the win, the South Sask Attack improve to 5-0-0-0 while the Southeast Unleashed / Pelda fall to 3-2-0-0. 2017 Female Final  Charlotte Geekie scored two goals, including the game-winning goal with 2:20 left in overtime as the Brandon Blizzard bettered the Pembina Valley Panthers 3-2 at J and G Homes Arena on Sunday. Also scoring for the Brandon Blizzard was and Emberley Crisanti. Goaltender Atkins Lydia turned aside five shots for the Brandon Blizzard in the victory. Providing the only offence for the Pembina Valley Panthers was Olivia Murray with two goals. Goaltender Addie Voesenek made 15 saves in the loss for the Pembina Valley Panthers.

Source for Sports AAA Hockey Challenge week 2 wrap-up

Week 2 of the 3 week Source for Sports AAA Hockey Challenge wrapped up Sunday. In total, 34 teams competed in 3 different divisions. The tournament resumes April 30-May 3. 2016 Gold Final Hudson Gill scored two goals to spark the Huskies Prospects White to a 6-2 triumph over the Wheatland Wild Sask at J and G Homes Arena on Sunday. Also scoring for the Huskies Prospects White was Brooks Leffler and Cash Keller, Luca Nagel and Rory Gillen each adding a goal. Goaltender Hudson Slowski turned aside 11 shots for the Huskies Prospects White in the win. Lighting the lamp for the Wheatland Wild Sask was Griffin Daviduk and Mae McTavish each adding single goals. Goaltender Jack Hilts made 23 saves in the loss for the Wheatland Wild Sask. Nagel deposited his fourth of the tournament into an empty net with 0:11 left in the third period to seal the win for the Huskies Prospects White. 2013 Final  Emmett Murray scored a goal and added two assists as the Stealth Wolves extended its winning streak to six games with a 5-2 triumph over the South Sask Academy at J and G Homes Arena on Sunday. Capping off the scoring for the Stealth Wolves was Beckett Bileski, Aiden Fowler, Calder Hazlewood, Jesse McGregor each tallying single markers. Murray and Ethan Norrie each added two assists. Goaltender Burke Keeping turned aside 10 shots for the Stealth Wolves in the win. Finding the twine for the South Sask Academy was Kyson Soyka and Nolan Meldrum chipping in with a goal each. Goaltender Lexi Andreas made 48 saves in the loss for the South Sask Academy. Murray added an empty-netter with 1:35 left in the third period to seal the win for the Stealth Wolves. 2016 Silver Final  Nash Hagidiakow scored four goals and added an assist as the Assiniboine Hockey Club extended its winning streak to five games with a 11-6 victory over the 2017 Extreme Hockey Vipers at J and G Homes Arena on Sunday. Also scoring for the Assiniboine Hockey Club was Bryn Luschinski with two goals, Sam Folster and Xavier Smith, Benjamin Slobodian, Declan Booth and Ian Reeve with a goal each. Brody Larkin added two assists. Goaltender Brice Luschinski turned aside 18 shots for the Assiniboine Hockey Club in the win. Lighting the lamp for the 2017 Extreme Hockey Vipers was Leo Pritchard with two goals and Noah Benoit, Hudson Menke, Henrik Kristoff and Thomas Filson each adding a goal. Benoit added three assists and Declan Mahussier added two assists. Goaltender Caleb Brisebois made 14 saves in the loss for the 2017 Extreme Hockey Vipers. The loss snuffed out the 2017 Extreme Hockey Vipers' five-game winning streak.

Brandon Wheat Kings forward Jaxon Jacobson has earned a prestigious opportunity on the national stage, being named to Team Canada’s U18 roster for the upcoming IIHF U18 World Championship. The tournament runs April 22 – May 2 in Slovakia The selection marks a major milestone in Jacobson’s young career, placing him among the top under-18 players in the country. Known for his speed, offensive creativity, and strong two-way play, Jacobson has continued to turn heads with his performances and steady development. Throughout the season, Jacobson was a key contributor for the Wheat Kings, showcasing a blend of skill and determination that has made him a player to watch. He finished the season with 85 points in 63 regualr season games. Now, he’ll have the chance to represent Canada on the international stage, competing against the world’s best in his age group. Former Wheat King McQueen signs entry-level contract with the Ducks

A former member of the Brandon Wheat Kings Roger McQueen is taking the next step in his hockey career, signing a three-year, entry-level contract with the Anaheim Ducks. Anaheim selected McQueen 10th overall in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. The deal marks a significant milestone for the young forward/defenceman, who developed his game in Brandon and became a familiar face to local fans during his time in the Western Hockey League. He tallied 86 points in 127 Western Hockey League games from 2022-25. Anaheim has been actively building toward the future, focusing on adding young talent to its roster. This signing reflects the club’s confidence in his potential to develop into a contributor at the professional level. For Brandon hockey fans, the signing is another proud moment, as the Wheat Kings continue to produce players capable of reaching the NHL. The organization has long been known as a stepping stone for elite talent, and this latest contract adds to that legacy.
