Brock Lesnar's son — Duke Lesnar - was drafted by the Medicine Hat Tigers in the recent WHL draft. Lesnar, 14, had 13 goals, 28 points through 30 games played with the Notre Dame Hounds U15 Prep (CSSHL U15) this season. Athens Shingoose of Waywayseecappo was selected in the 1st round (16th overall) in the same draft. Shingoose, RHA Winnipeg, led the CSSHL in powerplay goals this past season. Canadian Wrestling's Elite makes a special stop in Rivers, Manitoba on the Point To Prove Tour for their annual fundraiser for the Rivers Firefighters Association on Saturday, May 24th! The roster for the event features TNA Legend "Cowboy" James Storm, CWE Champion "Chizzled" Chad Daniels, "Tornado" Tony Kozina, "The Headline" Shaun Martens and "The Zombie Killer" MENTALLO. The 2nd annual CFB Shilo co-ed softball tournament (7 men, 3 women) is taking place on June 7&8 and they are looking to add a few more teams. First place takes home $1,000 and the entry fee is $325. While selecting a number of players in the 2025 WHL Draft and acquiring two new players (Grayson Burzynski and Luke Mistelbacher) in a massive deal with the Swift Current Broncos, the Brandon Wheat Kings also saw three players leave the organization. Dominik Petr was traded to the Saskatoon Blades, Alex Letourneau went to Swift Current, and Isaac Davies was scooped up by Penticton in the expansion draft. The female u18AAA Wheat Kings will be holding u18 AAA ID skates on May 21 and 26. Players interested in joining the Female U18 AAA hockey program for the upcoming season are encouraged to attend these evaluation skates. Please pre-register with Hockey Brandon by May 16 by calling the office at 204-726-3550. The cost for the two skate sessions is $40.

Local players selected in 2025 WHL bantam draft

The 2025 WHL Prospects Draft was held over the past 2-days and several players from Brandon were selected, highlighting the city's strong hockey development programs Reid Nicol went to Everett in the 1st round, 5th overall. He spent last season with the AAA U18 Wheat Kings. He racked up an impressive 58 points in 48 games during the regular season.     Victoria selected Kevin Knee, a defensemen, who spent last season with the Brandon Wheat Kings U15 AAA club. Knee was selected in the 4th round, 88th overall. He finished the season averaging more than 2 points a game (85 points in 32 games). Cooper Dryden was drafted  by Portland in the 6th round, 130th overall. Dryden was a teammate of Knee with the the Brandon Wheat Kings U15 AAA in 2024/25. He suited up in 21 games and recorded a 2.14 GAA with a .927 save percentage. Brandon's Talon Scinocca went to Penticton with the 139th pick (7th round). Scinocca spent last season at the Okanagan Hockey Academy with the U15 Prep team and picked up 38 points in 36 games. Also selected in the 7th round (161st overall) was defensemen Nash Lenton of the Brandon Wheat Kings U15 AAA team. Lenton averaged a point a game (32) this past season. One round later, Brayden Watt was selected by the Brandon Wheat Kings with the 176th pick. Watt skated with the Brandon Wheat Kings U15 AAA team in 2024/25.

Wheat Kings swing massive deal with the Swift Current Broncos

The Brandon Wheat Kings are excited to announce the acquisition of 19-year-old Forward Luke Mistelbacher and 19-year-old Defenceman Grayson Burzynski from the Swift Current Broncos. Trade Details: Wheat Kings Acquire: ’05 F Mistelbacher ’05 D Burzynski Broncos Acquire: ’25 1st ’25 2nd (SAS) ’27 3rd ’28 3rd ’28 6th ’09 F Alex Letourneau Mistelbacher the Steinbach, Manitoba native signed an ATO with the Iowa Wild a month ago and put up 1pt in 2gp while finishing the WHL regular season with 93pts in 67gp. “He finished eighth in the league in scoring last year, he had 93 points and was one of a handful of guys over 40 goals. He has the ability to put the puck in the net.” Said GM and Head Coach Marty Murray. Wheat Kings also added big 6’4 defenceman Grayson Burzynski who is also no stranger to Manitoba as he is a product of Winnipeg Minor Hockey. Burzynski put up a career high in all categories including 47pts in 62gp in the 2024-25 regular season. In an interview with Marty Marty “He’s a guy that had close to 50 points last year. He’s a smart player, he defends well, he can break pucks out. He’s got a long reach and he has a really good stick.” said Marty. “These players are available and we owe it to the kids and to our fanbase to really put our best foot forward and try to make a statement this year.” Added Marty Murray with these 2 acquisitions.  With these two additions to the Wheat Kings lineup it adds the over-ager total to 7 which they will eventually have to get down to 3 for the 2025-26 season.

Shootout required in 2 of 3 championship finals at the 2025 AAA Hockey Challenge

The third and final week of the 2025 Source for Sports AAA Hockey Challenge concluded Sunday in Brandon. Of note, 2 of 3 of the division final games required a shootout to declare a winner. 2012 Silver Sponsored by Branstone Financial Strategies Everett Reidy turned aside all 22 shots he faced and Miles Coy scored a goal as the Winnipeg Warriors (pictured above) extended its winning streak to six games with a 3-0 victory over the Wheat City Wild at J and G Homes Arena on Sunday. Adding markers for the Winnipeg Warriors was Rowan Whitely, Ryan Koenig each with single strikes. Goaltender Owen Lindenberg made 45 saves in the loss for the Wheat City Wild. 2013 Gold - Sponsored by Wayback Burgers Everett Mitchell scored two goals and added an assist and also scored the winner in round three of the shootout as the Jr. Blades bettered the Bridge City Brigade 5-4 at J and G Homes Arena on Sunday. Also scoring for the Jr. Blades was Keaton Kostiuk and Chazen Pawluski each with single strikes. Goaltender Britton Bennett turned aside 17 shots for the Jr. Blades in the victory. Scoring for the Bridge City Brigade was Bennett Phillips with two goals and Levi Coggar and Kelton Cross each adding single goals. Goaltender Ace Epp made 30 saves in the loss for the Bridge City Brigade. Adding markers for the 2014 Regina Titans was Angus Watkins and Blake Sawley and Sully Wilson with a goal each. Watkins added two assists. Goaltender Karter Hebert turned aside 40 shots for the 2014 Regina Titans in the victory. Providing the offence for the Wheatland Wild was Caelem Desautels with two goals and Marek Kosior, Maddox Hoffart and Rykr Mass each contributing with single markers. Kamden Ludwar added two assists. Goaltender JJ Nagy made 33 saves in the loss for the Wheatland Wild.

The Access Credit Union Grey Cup Tour will be making a stop in Brandon at the Summer Fair on June 4, 2025. In total, the Grey Cup will be making 40 stops in the Province leading to the 112th Grey Cup in Winnipeg this November including Dauphin (Countryfest), Rockin' the Fields of Minnedosa, and more. A co-ed adult volleyball tournament will be taking place in Neepawa on May 31 in support of Habitat for Humanity Manitoba-Neepawa Chapter. Registration is presently open ($300 per team) and Teams must have at least 3 women on the court.+ The Brandon Marlins 30th Anniversary golf tournament will be held on Aug 9th at the Wheat City Golf Course . A banquet is to follow at the Dome Building. For area soccer enthusiasts, the Canadian Women’s Soccer Team is set to face Haiti in Winnipeg at IG Field on May 31.   Seattle Kraken fifth-rounder Clarke Caswell is headed to Denver next season.
