Jacobson selected MVP in the ⁦Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League

Brandon Wheat Kings U18 AAA forward, Jaxon Jacobson was selected the MVP in the Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League for the 2023-2024 season. With 4 games left in the regular season, Jacobson leads the league in scoring with 91 points in only 31 games played. Teammate Brady Turko sits in second place, 8 points back, with 83 points. For his efforts, Turko was also selected and awarded the Hockey Ability and Sportsmanship player in the Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League for the 2023-2024 season. The high scoring duo join defensemen Kaeson Fisher and Owen Wallace on being selected to the 1st Allstar Team. Kaeson Fisher was also selected the Most Outstanding Defenceman in the Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League for the 2023-2024 season. The talented defensemen was selected 124th overall in the sixth round of the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft by the Everett Silvertips.

Minnedosa wins annual Killarney Sherocks hockey tournament

In the heart of Killarney, the fervor of hockey reached its pinnacle as female athletes from across the region converged for an electrifying display of skill, determination, and sportsmanship in the annual Killarney Sherocks hockey tournament. From seasoned veterans to emerging stars, players of all ages and backgrounds took to the ice, each driven by a shared passion for the game. Nine teams took to the ice over the weekend with Minnedosa shutting out the team from Pilot Mound 6-0 in Sunday's final.

Rebels, Wolves, Kings take home top honors at Brandon TOC

The second week of the 53rd annual Brandon Tournament of Champions ended yesterday with champions being crowned in three different divisions.  Thirty-four teams participated over the weekend including teams from Regina, Winnipeg, Minot, Dauphin, Yorkton, & Saskatoon. Female U11 A1 In a close hard fought battle, the Regina Rebels upended the Winnipeg East Stars 3-1 to lay claim to the Female U11 A1 title. Scoring for Regina in Sunday's final was Ashlyn Hayes, Marlee Frankiewitz, Tori Richardson. Leah Thomas picked up the win in net. Payton McLaren replied for the Stars. Male U11 A The Minot Wolves received goals from Brekken Mosser (2), Bryant Bisson, Riley Nikitenko, Crosby Smith, Wells Thompson (3) en route to a convincing 8-3 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings White in the Male U11 A championship. The Wheat Kings received goals from Bulk Oldcorn (2) and Walker Hargreaves. Male 15 A In a very thrilling game, the Dauphin Kings required a shootout to edge the Saskatoon North Stars 5-4. Dauphin's Jordan Height was the lone goal scorer in the shootout. Scoring in regulation for Dauphin were Ethan Zalischuk, Alex Lopez, Bohbi Bloomer and Lyric Smith. Keston Farr, Jagger Holcomb, and Korbyn Howat (2) were the North Star goal scorers.

Championship Sunday at the Tournament of Champions nets 4 new champions

Week 1 of the 2024 Brandon Tournament of Champions concluded today with titles being handed out in 4 different divisions. Week 1 of the tournament featured teams from Winnipeg, Regina, Moose Jaw, Thompson, Kenora, Minot & more. Week 2 of the tournament goes February 8-11 with 3 different divisions (Female U11 A1, Male U11 A, Male 15 A) taking part. Female U13 AA Ella Wotherspoon recorded a hat-trick en route to leading the The Warman Wildcats to the  Assiniboine Community College Female U13 AA division crown with a 5-2 win over the Regina Rebels Black. Ellie Graham-Wuttunee and Taylee Mason rounded out the scoring for the Wildcats, who went a perfect 5-0 on the weekend. Male U13 A The Manitou-Pilot Mound Tigers won the Westman Communications Group U13 A division with a 5-1 win over the MacDonald Lightning. Zack Mangin and Nash Ramage each scored 2 goals for the Tigers while Brock Vodden chipped in with a single marker. Hayden Collins picked up the win in net. Alex Delorme replied for the Lightning. Male U13 AA The Saskatoon Express beat the Saskatoon Titans 6-2 to win the Brandon Source for Sports U13 AA title. The Express were powered by Jaxen Hansen and Nolan McArthur who each found the back the net twice. Singles came of the sticks of Caleb Mozell and Callum Beatty. Male U15 AA The Bismarck Capitals won the East Side Mario's and Kings Kitchen U15 AA division with a 4-2 win over the AA Brandon Wheat Kings. The win captured a perfect weekend (5-0) for Bismark. Beckham Presley-McKay dented the twine twice while Bradyn Storm and Kyler Renz added singles.

Round Lake Bears DNWF Senior men’s hockey champions

The Round Lake Bears upended Layne's Starz 6-2 last Sunday to capture the Senior hockey championship at the 26th annual Dakota Nation Winterfest in Brandon. It was the 4th game of the day for Round Lake who defeated the Shoal Lake Flyers, Minegoziibe Warriors and the Norway House Bruins on their way to Sunday's final tilt. With the win, the Bears took home the trophy, championship banner and $20,000 cash. Winston Daychief (2), Colten Yellowhorn, Shaq Houle, Tyler Fidler, and Kurtis Luke scored for Round Lake.
