Wheat City Golf Course Launches New Online Look

Brandon, MB – Management and staff at Brandon’s Wheat City Golf Course are excited to launch a refreshed website that will provide all members and patrons with up-to-the-minute news on the upcoming 2018 season! A clean new look now awaits visitors to www.wheatcitygolfcourse.ca, highlighted by a comprehensive hole-by-hole tour with details, descriptions, and pictures of each hole. A new calendar of events will now list all of the course’s leagues, events, and tournaments, as well as that of the Wheat City Tennis Club. Visitors to the site now also have the option to sign up for the Wheat City Golf Course’s e-newsletter and have all the latest course and tennis news delivered directly to their email inbox. The website refresh has maintained the popular online tee time booking system, as well as a complete listing of course rates and fees and contact information for the Wheat City Golf Course Pro Shop. “We are pleased to offer all golfers or potential golfers of the Wheat City Golf Course a clean, easy-to-navigate website that will make it that much easier to find information relating to the course’s happenings,” says City of Brandon Manager of Parks Operations Bryce Wilson. “We hope it will entice golfers who perhaps didn’t get the chance for whatever reason to golf the reconstructed course in 2017 to consider checking it out this year.” Wilson adds that while they are still waiting on the weather before confirming the Wheat City Golf Course’s 2018 opening date, golfers are encouraged to visit the new website now to experience its refreshed look and feel. Golfers are also encouraged to sign up for the newsletter ahead of the season (http://wheatcitygolfcourse.ca/sign-up) to ensure they know about the opening date as soon as it is announced.

BSD schools and students to show support for Humboldt on Jersey Day

Brandon School Division students and staff will join people from across the country this Thursday by wearing their favourite jersey in a show of support for the Humboldt Broncos hockey team, and for all those impacted by the tragedy.  They are currently going through a tragedy that no family or community should experience.  Children can wear any type of jersey and it can be any colour. The "wear a jersey campaign" was organized by a group of Langley, BC hockey moms and has now escalated into a campaign that has gained worldwide support to crash victims and their families.

Humboldt Broncos bus, semi crash; RCMP confirm fatalities

RCMP are confirming multiple deaths after a crash involving a Saskatchewan Junior Hockey team as the Humboldt Broncos team bus was involved in a collision with a semi-trailer.  The accident happened Friday afternoon on Highway 35, about 30 kilometres north of Tisdale at the junction of Highway 335.  The team was en route to Nipawin for Game 5 of its SJHL semifinal series against the Nipawin Hawks.

WWHL concludes with champions crowned in 3 divisions

Mason Kaluzniak and Drew Bertone each picked up a goal and an assist to lead Montana’s Blazers (pictured above) to a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Double Decker Icemen in the Division 1 championship final in the Wendy’s Winter Hockey League.  Former Wheat King Brett Kitt also scored for Montana’s while Derek Velduisen and Richard Didlyck replied for Double Decker.  Zack Munn picked up the win in net. The Dock Icebats claimed the Division 3 title after upending the Pizza Hotline Penguins 4-2. Layton Dornn lead the charge for the Icebats registering a goal and an assist in the final.  Stefan Woods, Tanner Bell, and Bob Purvis also managed to find the back of the net for the Icebats.  Mike Wasilka and Ryan Mckenzie each dented the twine once for the Penguins, in the loss. Over in the Division 4 finals Brad Armstrong registered 2 goals to lead Precision Toyota to a 3-1 victory over Smittys Wings.  Zack Muir scored the eventual game winner for Precision Toyota early in the 3rd.  Smittys jumped out to an early first period lead on goal by Ron Cherepuschak before Precision replied with 3 goals of their own.  Trevor Johnston backstopped Precision to the victory.

Zack Whitecloud to play first NHL game Thursday against Oilers

According to a post on his fathers Facebook page, Brandon's Zack Whitecloud is scheduled to suit up in his first NHL game against the lowly Edmonton Oilers on Thursday.  Whitecloud recently signed a three-year, entry-level deal with the Las Vegas Golden Knights after finishing his sophomore season at Bemidji State.  Zach skated with the Brandon AAA Midget Wheat Kings in the 2013-14 season, and followed that up by playing two seasons with the MJHL’s Virden Oil Capitals.
