For the first time in over 10 years the Minnedosa Golf & Country Club will have a new golf course head professional as Patrick Law has recently been named to the position. Patrick will replace Deb Pritchard who is leaving her post in Minnedosa, after 11 seasons, to accept a position with the Portage Golf Club as their new General Manager. Patrick has been the Assistant Professional at the Shilo Golf and Country Club since 2010 and has been running an area youth program in the region for the last several years.

Te Brandon Bantam A Wheat Kings captured gold in the Winnipeg Jets Challenge Cup tournament held in Winnipeg over the holiday break. In total they played seven games, winning five of them. Shea Bechtold, Aiden Madill and Logan Taggart each dented the twine in the gold medal game against the River East Royals Grey bantam squad. Mason Kolesar picked up the win between the pipes for Brandon. Olympic dreams are still alive for the 18 teams who will be competing at the inaugural Canad Inns Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Trials in just over two weeks. The list of the 18 teams has now been confirmed, as in some some cases players had to be replaced because they were victorious at the 2017 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings earlier this month in Ottawa, and will be competing at the 2018 Winter Olympics in the four-player team men’s and women’s events. The 2018 Canad Inns Canadian Mixed Doubles Trials, scheduled for Jan. 2-7 at Stride Place in Portage la Prairie, Man., will decide Canada’s first entry into the Winter Olympics mixed doubles competition; mixed doubles is making its debut as an official medal sport in Pyeongchang, South Korea. And there will be a wealth of Olympic experience in the field, including past gold-medallists Jennifer Jones, Kaitlyn Lawes, Jill Officer and Dawn McEwen (all in 2014), John Morris (2010), and Brad Gushue and Mark Nichols (both 2006). In fact, two entries consist of only Olympic gold-medallists: Jones and Nichols, and Lawes and Morris. The 18 teams will be split into two nine-team pools, based on their seedings in the Canadian Mixed Doubles Rankings (CMDR). The teams will play a single round-robin within their pools, before eight teams (first and second in each pool, and the next four best win-loss records) move onto the playoffs. In addition, Radio-Canada will offer live-streaming coverage of the closing weekend of the 2018 Canad Inns Canadian Mixed Doubles Trials. WAMMA Brandon enjoyed a very successful day at the Bulldogs Invitational Wrestling Tournament in Winnipeg on Saturday, as all 11 wrestlers representing the club came home with medals. The wrestlers, aged 7-13, are coached by Michael Clark and Lisa Noctor and train out of their new dojo at 1203 Princess Avenue. While the club has been in existence for 10 years this is the second year WAMMA Brandon has offered a youth wrestling program.  WAMMA Brandon is part of an affiliate group of clubs that currently have eight locations across the province.  In addition to wrestling (Oct.-May) they also offer other youth programs including Bully Safe Kids and Youth Jiu-Jitsu.
