North Central Hockey League adds one team for 17/18

The North Central Hockey League has grown by one team, as the Shoal Lake Eagle were accepted back into the league, at the league’s annual meeting yesterday.  All 8 teams who participated in the league last season will return for 20217/18.  The league will consist of one division with each team playing a home-and-home series against each of the other teams for a 16-game schedule.  Games are expected to begin the 2nd week of November.  A team from The Pas had also applied to join the league and their application was voted down by league representatives.

Boston Bruins alumni team to play charity game in Shilo

Calling all bruins fans, the Boston Bruins greats of the past will be in Shilo on Thursday, November the 30th to play a charity game against the Shilo Stags. Shilo Minor Hockey is putting on the event and game time is 6:00 pm at the Gunner Arena in Shilo. The Bruins Alumni have been giving back for more than 39 years and have raised more than $5 million for charities. General admission tickets are $40. For ticket information please see poster below. The Bruins roster includes some of the top Bruins players of all time including: Ray Bourque Rick Middleton Terry O'Reilly Al Iafrate Bob Sweeney Charlie Simmer Tom Fergus Chris Nilan(may play with the stags) *additional names to be added in the near future.

RCMP believe Virden fire deliberately set, request assistance

Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Manitoba On Saturday, September 23, 2017, at approximately 05:45 am, the Virden RCMP received a report of a structure fire located on 7th Avenue in Virden. The fire began in one building and spread to two others before being brought under control. Three buildings suffered extensive damage. RCMP believe the fire to be deliberately set. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Virden RCMP at 204-748-2046 or call Manitoba Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, submit a secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com or text “TIPMAN” plus your message to CRIMES (274637). The Westman RCMP, Brandon Major Crimes Unit and the Office of the Fire Commissioner continue to investigate.

Montreal Canadiens Alumni Coming to Brandon For Charity Game

Habs Alumni Team Will Play a Team of Local Legends, to Raise Funds for New Indoor Turf at the Keystone Centre EMBARGO: September 11, 2017 – Earlier today Keystone Centre announced the Montreal Canadiens Alumni Tour, presented by Canadian Tire, will be coming to Brandon, Manitoba to participate in a charity hockey game on November 30, 2017 against a Local Team made up of Wheat King Alumni, BU Hockey Alumni and other local hockey fanatics and legends. The game will take place at Westman Communications Group Place and tickets will go on sale this Wednesday, September 13 for $20, $30, and $95 for VIP tickets, which include a pre-game meal at Hockey House and meet & greet with the Montreal Canadiens Alumni team. There will also be a Family 4-Pack. Tickets are available at tickets.keystonecentre.com, by calling (204) 726-3555 or in person at the Keystone Box Office. In addition, super fans can purchase a chance to share the ice with the Montreal Canadiens Alumni with spots as referees, linesmen and assistant coach with the Habs through the Keystone office at (204) 726-3503.  All funds raised will go towards the purchase of new indoor turf for use at the Keystone Centre, year-round*.
