Robins Earns Call Up

Brandon's Tristen Robins, after having an outstanding AHL season with the San Jose Barracudas, will have the chance to suit up Monday night for the San Jose Sharks as they will play the Winnipeg Jets. A crucial game for the Jets as they attempt to make playoffs and Robins will want to play spoiler. Tristen, the son of Trevor and Shane Robins, will have the same opportunity his father Trevor did.  Trevor was also a draft pick of the Sharks and his NHL debut was also against Winnipeg. The second round draft pick had 38 points in 63 games played this season in the AHL. Shane Robins told BDNMB.CA to expect to see over 20 Robins jerseys at Canada Place on Monday night. Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks claim THHL title

The Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks captured the 2022-23 THHL title this past weekend defeating the Minnedosa Bombers 3-1 in their best of 5 championship series. To reach the finals, the C-Hawks defeated Souris, Rivers, & Killarney in previous playoff action. Jason Bowles lead the way offensively for the C-Hawks picking up 31 playoff points in just 12 playoff games. Taylor Sanheim (28), Brad Bowles (23), and Brad Cole (19) also had strong offensive campaigns in the post season for Miniota/Elkhorn.

Huge submission only grappling event taking place in Brandon tomorrow

Brandon's First-Ever Submission Only Grappling event takes place tomorrow evening at the WMCA. The evening features some of Manitoba's most-skilled Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belts from 14 different gyms including  Joe "El' Dirte" Doerksen who earlier in his career had a number of fights in the UFC. A total of 18 matches are scheduled to take place followed by the  Quintet Team Competition.  This is a five man team event, with a maximum weight limit total for team. Each team sends in one member for a five minute match, if one competitor gets submitted he is eliminated, winner stays in and loosing team sends in next competitor. If there is no submission after 5 minutes both athletes are eliminated and 2 new contestants enter. This format is followed till one man standing. The event is being presented by Wamma Brandon and organized and run by top students and the administration team. Wendy’s Winter Hockey Champs

Brandon's local adult hockey league wrapped up Wednesday night at J & G Homes Arena and Westoba Place. The Wendy's Winter Hockey League has existed in Brandon for 31 years now and this past season featured teams from Neepawa - Sioux Valley - Boissevain and Brandon. Division 1 Finals - East 40 Icemen win 9 - 1 over Concept Homes Legends and sweep the series 2 - 0.  Jesse Toth had 3 goals - Riley Zimmer with 2 goals and Landon Desjardin with 2 goals for the Icemen.  Of note BDNMB.CA photographer Jeremy Champagne was left off the score sheet with no points. East 40 Icemen - Farran Munn Photo Credit Division 2 Finals - Eagle's Nest Bullies win 9 - 5 over Sioux Valley and sweep series 2 - 0. Game 2 was a much less intense affair with Jaxon Elmes scoring 3 for the Bullies and Tie Braun also scoring 3 for Sioux Valley.  The Bullies have earned a promotion to Division 1 next season as Team Manager Travis Young said in a social media posting on Thursday morning. The most physical game of the night with 35 minutes in penalties.  Tyler Porter put up 4 goals for Wendys and Daylon Scinocca had 4 assists for the champs. U15 AAA Brandon Wheat Kings capture Manitoba Female Hockey League title

The U15 AAA Brandon Wheat Kings captured the Manitoba Female Hockey League title Saturday in Carman, defeating the Pembina Valley Hawks 4-3 to sweep the best of 3 series. Danica Averill had a strong showing between the pipes for Brandon Saturday registering 59 saves. Katie Bell, Emily Beckwith, Avery Frattinger, and Lila Oldcorn scored for Brandon while league playoff scoring leader Sydney Sass chipped in with 2 assists. With her 2 points Saturday, Sass finished with a remarkable 17 points in only 6 playoff games. Prior to defeating Pembina Valley in the league final, the Wheat Kings also swept playoff series against Parkland and Norman. In their 6 playoff games, they outscored their opponents 29-7.
