Wheat Kings – U15 AAA Champions

One of the strongest teams to come from Brandon in years the U15 AAA Wheat Kings, comprised of mostly players born in 2007 and 2008, secured a 5 - 2 win over the Winnipeg Bruins.  With the victory Brandon captured the Provincial Championship. The Wheat Kings were able to secure the best of 7 series 4 - 0. Wheat Kings Coaching Staff Just another day at the office for Brandon's Cole Temple whom had 2 goals and 2 assists in the final game today in Winnipeg at the Southdale Arena.  Colten Worthington also registered 2 goals and 2 assists to help Brandon sweep the series 4 - 0.  Brady Low got the win in net with 28 saves. ACC Cougars win ACHA Women’s D2 National Championship

The ACC Cougars hockey team upended the Dakota College-Bottineau Lady Jacks 2-1 to claim the ACHA Women’s D2 National Championship. Simone Turner & Alecia Simpson scored for ACC while Megan Beswitherick picked up the win in net. Turner was named Tournament MVP, the second time she has won the award at the tournament. Skating Oval Closed For The Season

City of Brandon Parks & Recreation Services would like to inform the public that due to warmer temperatures and deteriorating ice conditions, the public skating oval west of McGregor Avenue has been officially closed for the winter season. “Oval Closed” signs and barricades have been placed at the oval and all associated flood lighting will be turned off, as well the Manitoba Hydro Power Smart Waterfall of Lights display has been turned off. The City of Brandon thanks all users of its outdoor recreational facilities for enjoying the spaces with respect and keeping them in good condition for all to enjoy.

U15 AAA Female Brandon Wheat Kings claim provincial title

Sunday afternoon in Carman, the U15 AAA Female Brandon Wheat Kings defeated Yellowhead 6-3 to capture the Rural Female U15 AAA title. In the gold medal game, the team trailed 3-1 at one point before tallying 5 straight goals of their own. The Wheat Kings received goals from six different skaters: Paige Crossley, Sydney Sass, Reese Shuttie, Jordan Bell, Madison Blaine, and Shayla Scinocca. Bell and Sass each recorded two assists, in addition to their goals. The team defeated Parkland (3-1) earlier in the day to advance to the championship game. Paige Crossley (2) and Sydney Sass (1) scored for Brandon in semi-final action.
