Former WHL’ers Brad Cole, Brock Nixon take home NCHL awards

Brad Cole of the Miniota-Elkhorn C-Hawks, who spent 4 years playing in the WHL with three different teams, was named the North Central Hockey League's top defenceman.   He currently has recorded 27 points in only 11 games. Russell Rams Brock Nixon was named the league's most valuable player, rookie of the year and most gentlemanly player.  Nixon, who also played professionally in Europe, shared the most gentlemanly award with Curtis Oliver of the Miniota-Elkhorn C-Hawks. The awards are voted on by representatives of the league’s 10 teams.  The league also announced their annual all-star teams as listed below: Nixon and Cole are 1st team all-stars. They join goaltender Deven Dubyk of the Swan Valley Axemen, defenceman Dillin Stonehouse of Miniota-Elkhorn, winger Derek Leblanc of the Virden Oil Capitals and centre Derek Falloon of Russell. The second team consists of netminder Jerrod Auger of Russell, defencemen Kaine Morran of the Grandview Comets and Jordan Thomson of Russell, wingers Rylee Zimmer of Russell and Tanner Lewis of Virden, and centre Drake Bodie of Virden. The 3rd team has an entire line from Miniota-Elkhorn – centre Brad Bowles and wingers Dustin Fisher and Shawn Bowles. Andy Chipelski of the Foxwarren Falcosn and Colin Paull of Virden anchor the defence, while the goaltender is Kyler Beckett of the Moosomin Rangers.

Multiple Arrests Following Confrontation with Brandon Police

Three people were arrested, and detained, overnight following an incident in Brandon on Saturday evening. Police say that a traffic stop was underway, in the 600 block of 34th Street, when a 29-year old passenger decided to vacate the vehicle and start a confrontation with a member of the Brandon Police service. Assistance was requested. A 29-year-old male passenger, and a 28-year-old female passenger, engaged themselves in the confrontation as other Police Members arrived. All three were intoxicated at the time of their arrests, and open liquor was discovered in the vehicle. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});  

Dauphin’s Countryfest 2017

Dauphin's Countryfest first round of 2017 artists were announced on Friday October 21, 2016. Confirmed entertainment this far, Thursday June 29: Doc Walker, Friday June 30: Meghan Patrick, Tim Hicks and Keith Urban, Saturday July 1: Luke Bryan and Sunday July 2: Johnny Reid. Rob Woloschuk, Promoter and Producer of Dauphin's Countryfest stated that since Friday's first round of artist announcements there has been a lot of "excitement and social media buzz surrounding this year's lineup". Between the three Countryfest stages (Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries, MTS stage and Credit Union Corral Stage) there are about 40 acts to confirm in total. Rob Woloschuk anticipates the second round of confirmed artists to be announced before Christmas. Member tickets on sale until October 28, 2016. Tickets for general public (weekend and day passes) go on sale November 14, 2016 @ 9am.
