Dakota Nation Winterfest returning to Brandon in 2027
Dakota Nation Winterfest will return to Brandon in January 2027, bringing Indigenous sport, culture and community together at the Keystone Centre following a one-year postponement.
Hosted by Sioux Valley Dakota Nation, the annual event was postponed for 2026 to allow additional time for planning and preparations. Organizers confirmed the festival’s return in a December 2025 announcement, promising a renewed celebration of Indigenous culture and community.
The Keystone Centre has listed Dakota Nation Winterfest 2027 on its event calendar for Jan. 31, with activities scheduled in the Manitoba Room, UCT Pavilion and Salon B.
Winterfest has traditionally attracted participants and visitors from across Canada and the United States, making it one of Western Manitoba’s major Indigenous cultural and sporting gatherings.
Past festivals have featured adult and minor hockey tournaments, basketball, volleyball, powwows, square dancing, moccasin games, talent shows and trade shows. The event provides opportunities for athletes, performers, families and community members to come together while celebrating Dakota traditions and Indigenous culture.
The 2026 postponement followed a review of planning requirements and event readiness. Sioux Valley Dakota Nation leadership said the additional preparation time would help strengthen partnerships and community participation ahead of the festival’s return.
Winterfest has long been an important gathering for Indigenous communities, offering an opportunity to reconnect with friends and relatives while showcasing cultural traditions and sporting talent.
Further details about the 2027 schedule and activities are expected to be announced by organizers.
