Male victim assaulted with a 4X4 piece of lumber, police say

At approximately 6:45 pm, police received a report of an assault in progress in the area of seventh and McTavish. A verbal altercation turned physical, and escalated quickly. A male and a female were observed punching another male in the head. The female left briefly and retrieved a 4X4 piece of lumber, then handed it to the male who proceeded to swing it at the other male. The male sustained injuries to his head, for which he was treated and released from BRHC.
The male who was committing the assault fled upon police arrival. He was pursued on foot and was apprehended a short distance away. The male swung a fist at one of the officers who was attempting to arrest him, and he continued to struggle as members were attempting to handcuff him. The officer did not require medical attention.
The 25-year-old female was arrested and will appear in court on September 3, 2019 on charges of assault.
The 31-year-old male was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre and will appear in court today on charges of Assault with a Weapon, Assault PO and Resist Arrest.
