Province Invests $155,000 To Support Brandon Tourism

The Manitoba government is investing $155,000, through the From the Ground Up – Safe Healthy Communities for ALL Program, to support the Keystone Agricultural and Recreational Centre and the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba, Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Glen Simard announced today.

“Brandon is a hub for tourism in western Manitoba, and the Keystone Centre and Provincial Exhibition are at the centre of that important industry,” said Simard. “Together, they anchor the city’s event industry, drive tourism and shape Brandon’s identity as western Manitoba’s regional hub. By supporting these important organizations, we’re ensuring Brandon can host world‑class events and showcase everything that makes this region such an exciting place to visit.”

A 2023-24 economic impact assessment found the Keystone Centre contributes $78.1 million annually to Manitoba’s economy and supports more than 2,000 jobs, the minister noted. The centre is home to the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League, the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair, sporting tournaments, concerts, trade shows and other events.

Projects approved for funding include:

• Keystone Agricultural and Recreational Centre Inc. – $100,000 to upgrade the Brandon Multiplex including dasher boards and glass at the Flynn Arena; and
• Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba Inc. – $55,000 to complete a strategic plan including a talent assessment, virtual coaching and event-specialist support.

“This funding will help ensure the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba can continue to deliver high-quality, community-focused events and experiences for Manitobans for years to come,” said Tim Rowan, president, Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba. “Our ongoing partnership with the Manitoba government and the support we receive locally from Minister Simard, recognize the important role the Provincial Exhibition plays in our province and the value of ensuring a strong and sustainable future for this important Manitoba institution.”

The From the Ground Up – Safe Healthy Communities for ALL Program provides up to $100,000 to help non-profits, municipalities and northern affairs councils fund community revitalization, youth programs and capital improvements that strengthen local infrastructure and support vibrant community life.
