Public Awareness: Phone Scam Using Brandon Police Service Caller ID

The Brandon Police Service is warning the public about a phone scam in which fraudsters are spoofing our phone number and caller ID to appear as though they are calling from the Brandon Police Service.

In a recent report, a resident received multiple calls from individuals claiming to be with Canada Post. The callers falsely stated there was an issue delivering new bank cards and instructed the resident to purchase $500 in gift cards to resolve the problem…

The scammers later began calling using the Brandon Police Service non-emergency phone number (204-729-2345), making it appear as though the calls were coming from police.

Please remember:

• Canada Post, financial institutions, and police will never ask you to purchase gift cards to resolve an issue or make a payment.

• Caller ID can be spoofed, meaning a phone number displayed on your phone may not actually belong to the person calling.

• If you receive a suspicious call, Do Not provide personal or financial information. Hang up and contact the organization directly using a trusted phone number.

• If someone claiming to be involved in this scam attends your home demanding payment, do not engage with them. Call 911 immediately.
