The IG Wealth Management Bobcat BIRT Cup took place today at the Wheat City Golf Course. A record 284 golfers were scheduled to tee off in the charity tournament which will support a number of initiates in Brandon and Westman; Bobcat student-athletes; Baldur Baseball Association (diamond upgrades); Carberry Royals Baseball Team (diamond upgrades); CNIB (guide dogs for the blind or partially sighted); Melita Golf Course (course upgrades); Westman Youth Football Association (Boyd Stadium upgrades) and Westman VOLT Hockey (assisting youth with disabilities). To accommodate the record number of golfers, the event featured a double shotgun start at 8am and 2pm.
This years marks the sixth installment of the IG Wealth Management Bobcat BIRT Cup. BIRT is short for basics, intensity, respect and team. Brandon University Sports Wall of Famer, the late Neil Andrews came up with the acronym. Over $257,000 has been raised for various community causes since the Bobcats took over the BIRT Cup in 2018.
Once again there was an impressive lineup of prizes for the golfers to potentially win including a Team Canada Mark Scheifele signed jersey, Vegas Golden Knights Logan Thompson signed jersey, New York Islanders Ryan Pulock signed jersey, and more.
