Plan B and Public Sleeps

Well I reached a new level of actually I don't know what but if "public sleeping" is a level, I passed. Hi. My name's Caley. I'm a public sleeper. That wasn't the plan when we left the house. We went to Monster Truck Mayhem tonight, briefly, rubber boots on, hats and ear plugs, and garbage bags because those are also for raincoats. If you didn't know. Apparently the monster truck Mayhemers are into speed and air time but NOT floods and lightening . Show cancelled. 1 of us was crying. So we went to the movie theatre. To see The Secret Life of Pets. Wearing rubber boots and shorts. And hats. This is where the public sleeping happened. It was me. I did that. It was right after I ate a whole bag of cotton candy. You know the one that's the size of a "throw cushion" that you always wanted when you were a little kid but your parents wouldn't let you have it. I had that. Then I had a sleep. Hence, level "public sleeper" reached. Leaving, entering daylight, I noticed I had cotton candy melted into the front of my black jacket. Bright pink and blue sugary crystals encrusted into the front of my jacket. I don't even remember that part. What happened? Where am I? I  thought you should know.

Bugs

Heads up. This is gross. Albeit fascinating. I don't like bugs actually. Well maybe ladybugs and dragonflies. Until I saw one under a macro lens, which makes you wonder why I'd have a few hundred pictures of them. And even more peculiar, why I'd order a macro lens kit for my iPhone, specifically for getting a better look at their beady little eyes and a bazillion legs and other weird parts. And most shocking of all? Hair. So much hair. And their faces. I've seen more smiling bugs in the last 2 years than I don't know what. As if there's a comparison for that. Really. Back to the hair. That's what pushes the fear factor over the edge for me. Only 2nd to their rapid and unpredictable movement. You have to hold really still, and get REALLY close to take a picture of a bug, using a macro lens. This has led to some inevitable mishaps, with a bit of screaming, and probably some surprised bugs. I do like the colors though. Especially when the bug is resting on something with complimentary colors. So if you ever wondered what a beetles feet looked like, or a caterpillars smile, wonder no more. Yours truly, Caley

ART, POETRY, STORYTELLING AND HIP HOP SHOW COMING TO GLOBAL MARKET ON JULY 8TH 5-8PM A swarm is coming! The Beehive Design Collective and Test Their Logik will be coming to Brandon, MB. They will be combining storytelling and presentations of their most recent masterpiece, MesoAmérica Resiste! with hip-hop performances and shows by Test Their Logik. They will be travelling with giant art murals, a distro of activist art and literature, stories, songs, and experiences to share. Global Market is pleased to announce that this collaboration will be presenting and performing at the Market on July 8th, from 5 to 8pm.  The event is free and open to the public but, we will be accepting donations at the entrance that will go toward Canadian Mental Health Association Westman Region (CMHA) programs. Food and refreshments will be sold at our new Global Market Lemonade stand through the course of the evening. The Beehive is an all-volunteer swarm of educators, artists, and activists who use images to communicate and educate people about the complex realities of our times. The dizzyingly detailed, hand- drawn, large- format posters and banners they tour with are portable murals that come alive through storytelling, illuminating how single issues are interconnected and part of bigger systems. Join in as the Bees deconstruct often overwhelming global issues in an engaging and interactive presentation, using metaphors from the natural world to connect social and environmental struggles. We will kick the event off with a workshop, presented by Darius from Test Their Logik, at 5pm in the Medallion Room located at 23-12th street, attached to the Building Re-Fit Store. This workshop will have a focus on social justice issues around the world and hip hop which will be lead as a participatory and hands-on workshop for youth on the interconnections of hip hop culture. Followed after the workshop there will be a presentation of recent artwork done by artists from the Beehive Design Collective. Ending the evening with a hip hop show from Test Their Logik who is already working on their third album after recently releasing their second, “BE”. “We are really looking forward to this group coming to our community.” Says Ashley, “I first met them last year when they stopped in Brandon and was instantly inspired by their passion and beautiful yet powerful creativity. Countryfest 2016 Weekend Wrap Up

Dauphin’s Countryfest is Canada’s longest running country music festival celebrating 27 years. The weekend celebration was a fun-filled, 4 day event that was packed with music and activities. So many options available, that it is impossible for one person to partake in everything! There was something for everyone’s preferences; great entertainment, contests(flip cup & perogy eating), beach volleyball, helicopter rides, mechanical bull ride, bubble soccer and endless games at campsites and creek gatherings. Countryfest is about meeting old friends and making new friends and enjoying what the weekend has to offer. Thursday night, Trooper and BlackJack Billy kicked off the festival on the hill top stages with high energy shows. These bands had both the Credit Union Corral stage and the MTS stage crowd fired up for a good time. Friday coincided with Canada Day, so celebrations were definitely in order. The Manitoba Liquor Lotteries Main stage was loaded with talented Canadian music all day long from Autumn Hill, The Lovelocks, Cold Creek County, High Valley, Dallas Smith and Dean Brody. The unique amphitheatre is quite a powerful environment, when the musicians have the crowd on their feet dancing and singing the lyrics to the songs. In between one of the sets, the crowd spontaneously burst into patriotism by singing Oh Canada. The night of Canadian entertainment ended on the hilltop with Chad Brownlee on the MTS stage and Barrcuda(Heart tribute band) on the Credit Union Corral stage. Saturday was another day of solid musical acts. The Manitoba Liquor Lotteries Main stage featured local Roblin, Manitoba talent of the Ryan Keown Band in the afternoon. The evening line up was spectacular with Chris Janson, Thomas Rhett and Lady Antebellum. Chris Janson brought two young siblings(Jace and Jordan Woloski) from Rapid City, Manitoba on stage to help sing his hit, “Buy Me A Boat”. Thomas Rhett also brought a male out of the crowd to sing a verse of Garth Brooks “Friends In Low Places”. Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley came right through the crowd! The full amphitheatre was high energy all evening! Sunday musical acts were pure classic country. The Merle Haggard Tribute was pretty empowering. Merle’s sons, Noel and Ben Haggard, as well as Merle’s long time band, The Strangers put on a spectacular show. For anyone that was at Countryfest on Sunday, they can attest that the weather was pretty dreary and wet all day, but from the moment The Merle Tribute started, the sun came out for the first time. Maybe Merle was watching over his sons! The crowd enjoyed the classic songs of “Mama Tried”, “Silver Wings” and “Okie from Muskogee”. Unfortunately, Jamey Johnson was unable to attend. Following, the Merle Haggard Tribute, Terri Clark proved that 21 years in the music business that she has hit after hit. She put on an incredible performance. After a delay, the patient crowd enjoyed Dwight Yoakam. He sang all his classics from “Guitars, Cadillacs”, “Fast as You”, “Streets of Bakersfield”, “A Thousand Miles from Nowhere”, “Lttle Sister” and “Suspicious Minds”. The night ended on the hilltop stages with Dirty Catfish Brass Band and Deric Ruttan. Overall, the weekend was fantastic and social media accounts are booming with pictures and videos, check out #cfest2016, to see what you may have missed this year. Watch the Chevy Top 20 Countdown on CMT to see clips and interviews from Dauphin’s Countryfest, that airs this Saturday July 9. I just wanna say, job well done to all the Dauphin’s Countryfest organizers and volunteers for yet another memorable year. I can't wait till the lineup for Dauphin’s Countryfest 2017 is announced …. Who would you like to see there next year?

Applying for Life Insurance – The Process

When preparing to apply for life insurance, there are a few steps to the process.  First, one needs to decide how much to apply for. This is done by completing a needs analysis with your life insurance-licensed financial professional. Many things are taken into consideration, a few of which are income replacement, debt cancellation and final expenses.  Once the amount is determined, a look at different life insurance products is explored to come up with the best solution to one's situation. A combination of products may be the best way to go - permanent and temporary (term). Of course, the cost of the premium is important and needs to fit the budget but having the right product is also important.  When the amount being applied for and the best product are decided upon, the application process begins. Here are some pieces of information to have ready before applying:    - Date of last visit to a medical professional and the reason why    - Results of that visit with information on medication and/or treatment plan     - List of all medications being taken    - Health history on immediate family members (parents, siblings) There are also questions about one's travel and lifestyle activities for which the answers help the insurance company's underwriter determine the risk in providing coverage to an individual. For instance, if a person likes to hang glide, this provides more risk and is taken into consideration. This doesn't mean one wouldn't receive the life insurance because of the activity, but it may mean a rating to the premium. One could pay more for their premium than another person who doesn't hang glide nor participates in any other risky activities.  Based on the amount of insurance being applied for and the age of the proposed insured, there could be medical tests required, such as blood/urine tests and ECG. The insurance company pays a paramedical provider for this and, in most cases, a nurse can take the samples and do the ECG in the insured's home rather than in a clinic. The results are then given to the insurance company to help them make their decision in issuing the insurance. Also, the results can be made available to the insured for their own information and peace of mind.  It may seem like there is a lot to the application process but with the help of a licensed financial professional, it doesn't have to be so daunting.  Finally, something to remember is that money pays the life insurance premium but one's health buys the insurance coverage.
