Khan Foods reopening in the Brandon Shoppers Mall

Khan Foods, a Brandon restaurant serving authentic Pakistani and Middle Eastern Cuisine, is hoping to open their new location in the Brandon Shoppers Mall shortly. The extremely popular restaurant closed their downtown location at the end of March of this year and have spent the last several months in search of a new address to call home. The new location, previously occupied by Ms. Vanellis, is currently undergoing some minor renovations in anticipation of the re-launch scheduled for somewhere between August 10-15, if all goes according to plan. They will be opening with a new menu & new flavors including a butter chicken calzone and naan bread pizza. Ownership also told bdnmb.ca that many of the most popular menu items will be making the move to the new location as well. Stay tuned to their Facebook page here for additional updates as to their opening.

Local artist paints new mural to cover graffiti on Brandon business

Local artist Jordan Mcgregor was tired of driving down College Ave. seeing various forms of graffiti tags on the wall of Brandon Ave Electric and thought it would be a good idea to approach them to do a cool mural that would also help promote their business. Vern Snyder, one of the owners of Brandon Ave Electric, said he has no regrets and has received only positive feedback so far.  Also, Snyder wishes all the best for McGregor in his new  business venture. The 35 year old Mcgregor said it was nerve racking to ask them and when they said yes he was ecstatic as this would be his first commercial mural.  Overall the feedback has been good with maybe the odd negative comment from other artists.  Down the road he would like to work together with Anne Boychuk and do a few more larger projects under his belt. Kickin’ Axe Throwing expands services, now offering a “wreck room”

Have you ever been so frustrated that you just wanted to smash everything in the room? Now, thanks to Kickin' Axe Throwing you have that opportunity. The downtown based business recently expanded services and added a "wreck room" where patrons can safely vent their rage by destroying objects. The concept of the wreck room is quite simple. You book a timeslot to demolish a variety of items ranging in size from dinner plates & ceramics to TV's & electronics. Kickin' Axe Throwing can supply the items or you do have the option of bringing in your own items. Pricing varies depending on the size of the object and whether or not you are bringing in your own items. The company provides all the necessary safety equipment (face protection, coveralls, gloves, etc), and the tools to get the job done (hammers, bats, wrecking bars, among others). Best part of it all, they will even clean it all up for you once you are done. Owner Darcy Low told bdnmb.ca that he currently has an inventory available to purchase for your smashing needs, but the supply is limited. Anyone looking to clear out and donate old/damaged items they no-longer require can contact Darcy on the company's Facebook page here. Kickin' Axe Throwing first opened in Brandon in October of 2017. In July of 2020 they relocated to their current address at 1203 Princess Ave. It’s a great location for stags/stagette’s, birthday/anniversary celebrations, corporate team building or for a fun night out with friends. They have a variety of snacks and drinks available for purchase, as well as an appetizer menu provided by The Dock on Princess. They are now also licensed to serve alcohol. Please visit their webpage for additional information and pricing options on both axe throwing and the new wreck room.

Westman Communications Group to expand Fibre services into 2 new communities

In partnership with the Rural Municipality of Victoria, Westman Communications Group (Westman) will be launching its services in Holland and Cypress River this December. Residents and businesses will be connected directly to fibre optics and have access to Westman's most advanced communication services, including High-Speed Internet with speeds up to 1 Gigabit, Digital HD TV and Phone. "This partnership provides more choices for entertainment and savings," said Dave Baxter, President and Chief Executive Officer of Westman. "With more wireless-enabled devices in homes competing for bandwidth, our high-speed, no-data cap plans are an excellent choice. Having access to faster download speeds also creates opportunities for business growth, government institution development, and remote learning." Westman takes pride in being a locally owned and operated cooperative committed to delivering competitive and innovative products and services to meet its members' needs. Offering High-Speed Internet, Digital HD TV, and Phone, they are focused on providing high-quality services and support that improve life in ways that truly matter. Westman invests each member's equity back into its operations to add new services, expand to new communities, provide local programming and employment, and generously support their members and communities with sponsorships and scholarships. "Council of the Rural Municipality of Victoria will be stepping up the service available for the residents of Holland and Cypress River. Who would have predicted that municipal services would ever extend beyond roads, streets, water and sewer," said Rural Municipality of Victoria Reeve, Ray Huggart. "The last year has certainly taught us that we need to be connected to fibre for communities to thrive, and in order to provide that goal, you may need to be Wired for Progress." Westman will be connecting Holland and Cypress River to their services in the December timeframe.
