Update: Motor Vehicle Vs Pedestrian Collision

On October 11, 2022, police learned of the passing of the 80-year-old pedestrian due to injuries sustained during the motor vehicle collision on October 4, 2022. On October 12, 2022, police arrested the 67-year-old male who was driving the vehicle that struck the victim.  He was released and will appear in court on December 12, 2022 on a charge of Fail to Remain at Accident Scene Causing Death. Original release from October 5, 2022: On October 4th, at 10:00am, a report was received of a single motor vehicle vs pedestrian collision at the crosswalk in the 1900’ block of Richmond Ave.  A Ford F150 pickup was travelling westbound when it struck an 80 year old man who was crossing the street.  The driver of the truck failed to remain at the scene of the collision.  The victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.  At 4:15pm, police located the driver of the truck and placed him under arrest.  The 67 year old man was held in custody as the investigation continues.

Jumpstart Multi Sport Court Now Open In Brandon

 (City of Brandon PSA) The City of Brandon and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities (Jumpstart) are proud to announce the grand opening of a new Jumpstart Multi Sport Court, located at 510 Maryland Avenue. At over 13,000 square feet, the Jumpstart Multi Sport Court provides space for organized sport and casual play that is designed to accommodate physical, cognitive, and sensory disabilities. “We are honored to partner with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities and the local Canadian Tire Dealer to see this inclusive multi-sport court come to Brandon,” said Mayor Rick Chrest. “This space will provide a great opportunity for everyone to be able to play sports in our city.” Marked for a variety of sports and featuring adjustable equipment, kids of all ages and abilities can play together side-by-side, fostering a stronger, more inclusive, and healthier community. The project was made possible through collaboration with Jumpstart and thanks to the generosity of local Canadian Tire Dealer, James Crighton. “Through sport, kids have the opportunity to develop valuable life skills such as teamwork, confidence and resiliency,” said Marco Di Buono, President of Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities. “We are proud to partner with the City of Brandon and our local Canadian Tire Dealer to bring the power of inclusive play to the community.” The Jumpstart Multi Sport Court is part of the Charity’s Inclusive Play Project, which focuses on removing accessibility barriers to sport and play.

Theft of Motor Vehicle, Female (33) Suspect Arrested

Source: BPS News Release On October 10, 2022, shortly before 10:00 pm, police responded to a report of a vehicle from the 200 block of 12th street.  Shortly before 2:00 am, police located the vehicle parked in the 100 block of Rosser Ave, and arrested the female who was sitting in the driver’s seat.  The 33-year-old female was also to abide by release conditions not to be in a vehicle’s driver’s seat without the owner present.  She was lodged at Brandon Police Service and will appear in court today on charges of Theft of Motor Vehicle and Fail to Comply with Release Order X3.

Source: BPS News Release At 10:29 pm Police were called to the area of 34th St and Richmond Ave as a taxi driver was having issues with a female in their cab. The 25 year old female was intoxicated and causing problems in the cab and when the operator attempted to phone in the problem she grabbed him by the ear and grabbed at his phone. She was located in the area after exiting the cab and while in Police custody proceeded to kick one of the officers in the stomach. She was arrested and charged for assaulting the officer and the taxi driver and later released for on an Undertaking for court.
