A few interesting things that have popped up over the last two weeks. 1 - Local hockey player Beau Calvert ( 7 years old ) somehow put up 48 goals in Portage at the Portage Cup in 4 games. Next closest goal scorer had 16 goals. Perhaps a new Bedard on the horizon. 2 - Freeze That on 18th Street will feature frozen foods and prepared meals. 27-Year-Old Charged with First-Degree Murder following assault at BCI

On December 29th, 2024, at 5:30 pm Police received call from Brandon Correctional Center reporting that an inmate had seriously assaulted another inmate. The 23-year-old male victim had been transported to hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The investigation revealed the victim was repeatedly punched and kicked by his cell mate. The file was sent to the crown attorney for review and a charge of first-degree murder was recently authorized. A 27-year-old male was arrested at Stony Mountain Institute and will appear in court on March 25th, 2025.

Failure to Comply Undertaking On March 23rd at 1:46PM police were called to the 200 block of 9th Street for an intoxicated female who was passed out by an elevator. Police attended and found the 23-year-old female. By being at the said address the female was in Breach of an Undertaking. She was arrested, medically cleared and held in detention cells to be released once sober. A court date of August 11th, 2025, has been set. IPDA On March 23rd at 7:45AM police were requested to assist with a male rolling around in the ditch in the 1800 block of 18th Street North. The 41-year-old male was located by police and found to be highly intoxicated by drink or drug. He was medically cleared and held in detention cells to be released once sober.

Vehicle Fire – Arson, Theft Under $5000

Vehicle Fire – Arson On March 20th at 7:50AM Brandon Police alongside Brandon Fire and Emergency Services responded to a vehicle fire near 8th Street and Assiniboine Avenue. The fire was determined to be arson. A Perimeter was setup and K9 were called in. The incident remains under investigation. Theft Under $5000 / Failure to Comply Probation X2 On March 20th at 8:30PM Police were called to a business in Corral Centre where a Loss Prevention Officer was currently outside the business attempting to arrest a shoplifter. The suspect was taken into custody and $86.21 worth of merchandise was recovered. The 34-year-old male was on two Probation Orders not to attend the store. He was arrested, held in detention cells and will attend court in the morning on March 21st. 2025.

Police Respond to Multiple Thefts Under $5000 in Brandon

Theft Under $5000 On March 19th at approximately 1:30PM a store from the Corral Centre called regarding a male actively stealing items. Police located and arrested the 41-year-old male who had stolen $180.90 worth of merchandise. He was released on an Undertaking with a court date of May 26th, 2025. Theft Under $5000 On March 10th an individual stole merchandise valued at $60 from a store located in the 900 block of Victoria Avenue. Video surveillance was obtained. On March 19th the individual attended BPS. The 17-year-old female was arrested, charged and later released via Undertaking with a court date of May 20th, 2025. Theft Under $5000 / Failure to Comply Undertaking On March 19th Police were notified of a theft at a business in the 900 block of Victoria Avenue. A male had stolen approximately $200 worth of merchandise and fled on foot. Several hours later a pedestrian stop initiated with a suspect matching the description was conducted near 7th Street and Rosser Avenue. Search incident to arrest resulted in the recovery of merchandise from the store. The individual was on an Undertaking not to attend the store. The 38-year-old male was arrested, held in detention cells and will attend court in the morning on March 20th, 2025.
