17 year old male facing multiple charges following string of fires in Brandon

Police and members of BFES responded to 4 fires overnight beginning at approximately 3:42 am. The last fire was reported at 4:15 am. The fires were started on residential properties within a 10 block radius and include sheds, trees, a dumpster and a porch. Multiple households were evacuated as a precaution. Individuals without a place to evacuate to where brought to Brandon Police Service. All fires were successfully extinguished, and there were no reported injuries. The extent of the monetary damage to property is not known at this time.
A 17 year old male cyclist was arrested near one of the scenes. He will appear in court on July 2, 2019 on charges of Arson with Disregard for Human Life, Arson Causing Damage to Property, and Possession of Incendiary Material.
At this time police are not looking for any other suspects; however, the investigation is ongoing in cooperation with members of the Office of the Fire Commissioner.
