Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At 1:40 am, officers responded to a restaurant in the 1900 block of Richmond Ave after staff reported a male was threatening them and other customers.  The male had also pulled out a knife and waved it at customers in a threatening manner.   The male, a 27 year old from Killarney, was located outside the restaurant and arrested.  He will appear in court on Saturday morning.  A 28 year old female, also from Killarney, was with man and was lodged at Brandon Correctional for Breach of Peace to be released when she is sober.

Brandon, MB – The Public Art and Mural Committee is excited to announce that the first round of murals are in the process of bring installed downtown. A total of 8 murals will be installed under this process throughout the spring. The committee, comprised of representatives from the Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation (BNRC), Brandon Downtown Development Corporation (BDDC), City of Brandon – Community Development, Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (AGSM) and downtown property owners, started their work this past year with the colorful ‘Brandon – A Home in the Blue Hills’ mural at 1126 Rosser Avenue. The paint is just now drying on their newest mural at 440 Rosser Avenue and another couple muralists are expected to put paint to walls within the next week. The eight murals expected to go up this spring are: 1. 921 Rosser Avenue – Artist James Culleton 2. 630 Rosser Avenue – Artist Nereo Eugenio 3. 704 Pacific Avenue – Artist Emmanuel Jarus 4. 118 10th Street – Artist Jason Botkin 5. 217 10th Street – Artist Jerry Rugg 6. 315 10th Street – Artist Mary Lowe 7. 440 Rosser Avenue – Miguel Rodriquez 8. 136 11th Street – Artist Trevor Wheatly By creating colourful and modern murals on blank surfaces, the Public Art and Mural Committee hopes to announce to our community that downtown Brandon is undergoing an exciting transformation and is becoming an increasingly vibrant neighbourhood in our city. Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On May 2nd, 2019, Brandon police became involved in a CDSA investigation which led to the arrest of six individuals, all of whom, are in custody and will appear in Brandon Court on May 3rd, 2019. In the initial portion of this investigation, police conducted a vehicle stop which led to the seizure of 11 oz of Meth (potential maximum street value of $ 30,800) as well as a quantity of Canadian currency. A second vehicle was also stopped a short period of time later leading to the seizure of 4 oz of Heroin (potential maximum street value of $56,000). A short time after the second vehicle stop, a 28 year old Brandon woman was stopped and found in possession of 71 grams of Meth (potential maximum street value of $42,000.00) as well as a can of bear spray. Police then conducted a Search Warrant on a residence in the west end of Brandon which led to a further seizure of 9 oz. of Meth and 2 grams of Heroin (with a total potential maximum street value of $ 26,400.00). As a result of the a/n incident the following individuals were arrested: A 45 year old man from Thompson for PPT Heroin, A 45 year old man from Brandon for PPT Heroin and Possess Meth as well as Possess Proceeds of Crime, A 40 year old man from Winnipeg for PPT Meth, and Proceeds of Crime A 28 year old woman from Brandon for PPT Meth, Possession of Heroin, Possess Proceeds of Crime as well as Possess a Prohibited Weapon and Possess Weapon Contrary to a Prohibition Order, A 24 year old man from Winnipeg for PPT Meth, Proceeds of Crime as well as Possess, A 20 year old man from Thompson for PPT Meth. Over the last week Brandon Police Officers have been instrumental in the seizure of a large quantity of illicit drugs including Meth, Heroin, and Fentanyl. These illicit drugs have a total potential maximum street value of over $ 453,200.00. Those who engage in unlawful drug activity ruin communities, families and relationships with loved ones.  The Brandon Police Service remains dedicated to enforcing laws against illegal drugs and those who sell them and will continue to make every effort to keep Brandon safe.

BRANDON—The Manitoba government is providing more than $130,000 from Manitoba Justice’s Criminal Property Forfeiture Fund to the Brandon Police Service to improve safety for their officers and the community, Justice Minister Cliff Cullen announced here today. “These significant investments will enhance public safety in Brandon and the surrounding regions by equipping police with the tools they need to stay safe and do their jobs more effectively,” said Cullen.  “These tools will help to save lives and enhance officer safety, and the Manitoba government is pleased to provide this support to the Brandon Police Service.” The investments announced today include: more than $86,000 for a new SkyRanger drone that will be used for traffic accident and crime scene investigations, search and rescue, mass disaster scenes, high-speed pursuits and tactical surveillance during high-risk incidents; more than $20,000 for three night-vision goggles to assist drug investigators with surveillance in low-light conditions; more than $18,000 for 12 gas masks to enable the Tactical Response Unit to safely clear areas during high-risk calls after a chemical munition deployment; and $8,000 for the Youth Cadet Program to purchase sporting equipment and uniforms. “This funding allocation from the provincial government will ensure that our work towards a safer community and engagement with our youth can continue,” said Chief Wayne Balcaen, Brandon Police Service.  “Using funds taken from criminals to support police service equipment and programming sends a powerful message to the public that crime doesn’t pay.” The minister noted Brandon is also receiving $8,000 for the Crime Stoppers program, which will be used for promotional materials and rewards.  Crime Stoppers is a program that lets community members share information with police agencies safely and anonymously to help solve crimes in the community. The minister said more than $1.6 million has so far been dedicated this year through the Criminal Property Forfeiture Fund to police agencies across Manitoba.  Since  its  inception, just under $21 million  in assets  have  been  successfully  forfeited  to  Manitoba  through  criminal  property  forfeitures. BRANDON—A successful program designed to help job-seekers find and prepare for employment is expanding to Brandon, ensuring people in the Westman region can access these important supports and achieve greater financial independence, Families Minister Heather Stefanson announced in the community today. “Jobs on 9th will be a single-window resource for job seekers, with supports for people who are ready to find and successfully apply for work,” said Stefanson.  “We’ve seen a lot of success with this approach in Winnipeg, which is why we are expanding to serve the Brandon and Westman regions.  We are investing in proven strategies that will make a real difference in the lives of Manitobans and their families.  The advice and support they receive at this service centre could change the rest of their lives.” Jobs on 9th will launch this fall, modelled after the Jobs on Market service centre in Winnipeg.  It will support individuals looking for employment with resume development, job search counseling, job referrals, connections to community resources and access to computers, phones and printers.  Work-related expenses for clothing, transportation and equipment, and emergency food vouchers are also available for clients. Provincial staff will work quickly with clients to fully assess and identify their needs to enter or return to the workforce.  They will also monitor client progress for up to 90 days to improve employment outcomes. The minister noted the office, located at 127-340 Ninth St. in Brandon, is currently being renovated to better meet the needs of clients.  Once it opens, the centre will have three dedicated staff to support the employment goals of Westman residents. In just over two years, Jobs on Market in Winnipeg has met with and provided services to more than 4,900 people and approximately 2,200 of them have gained financial independence without Employment and Income Assistance (EIA).
